Case Study 2: Hotel Occupancy Rates
Many properties in the hospitality industry experience strong seasonal fluctuations in demand. To be successful in this industry it is important to anticipate such fluctuations and to understand demand patterns. The file "Occupancy Rates Data" contains data on monthly Hotel Occupancy Rates (in % capacity) for Honolulu, Hawaii from January 2000 to December 2004.
Examine the data and prepare a report for the manager of a hotel chain in Honolulu on the patterns in Hotel Occupancy during this period. Include both numerical summaries and graphical displays and summarize the patterns that you see. Discuss any unusual features of the data and explain them if you can, including a discussion of whether the manager should take these features into account for future planning.
The report is to be submitted in "Assignments" Tab under Case Study 2.
