1. Read the chapter 9.1 and do the problem 9.14 (page 283).

Hint:

Problem 9.14:

a) The null hypothesis : µ = 7500

The alternative hypothesis µ≠7500

Reject the null hypothesis?

Note 0.05 level of significance means (two tails as µ≠7500):

d) Based on the result from c), reject the null hypothesis? Explain your answer. Compare the answer obtained from the part c and the one from part a. Same answer (for example, both reject the null?).

2. Read chapter 9.2 and do the problem 9.31

Hint:

c) Draw a box plot (as drawing a normal probability plot is not so simple). What do you thin of the box plot (e.g., any outlier? Is the data set symmetric or skewed?). Use Excel for the plot (copy & paste the plot to your word file). See the boxplot on page 287. If you don’t know how to draw a box plot in Excel, just make a Google search. It is very easy!.

d) hint: how many samples are collected?
