Assessment 1: Case Study-1

Due date: Week 5 Group/individual: Group Word count / Time provided: 2500 words Weighting: 30% Unit Learning Outcomes: ULO-1, ULO-2

AIT Is an American institute of technology which has recently moved to Sydney .AIT has developed two mid-size campuses where both located in Sydney. The distance between the two campuses is 800 meters. The first campus dimension is 1400 meters length and 400 meters width. The second campus dimension is 500 meters length and 1500 meters width. The first campus has four blocks (buildings) for three colleges (Education, Science and Engineering) in addition to a library. The second campus has two blocks for Administration and a library.

It is understood that the AIT would like to stay in use of the latest networking technology. All users are required to be able to use wired and wireless devices.

It understood as well that both campuses will be required to be connected using any desired high performance, less overhead and secure technology in addition to users will be able to use wireless technology indoor and outdoor within the dimensions of each campus.

AIT would like you to develop a Network proposal (report) which can address the mentioned requirements and concerns.

Report Contents

1. Proposal description and requirements 2. Network design analysis

a. Students are required to draw the campuses floor mapping which include buildings, pin on it where routers, switches, servers, links are located.

3. Hardware and software analysis a. Students are required to search for devices, links and provide a list of brands, models,

technical specification, and images for each. b. List of Software may be used.

4. Relate these devices to the OSI layers, which device belongs to which layer. Highlight each device functions within these layers.

5. The desired type of link(s) between campus. justify your choice. 6. References IEEE (minimum 5 different resources)

- Student can use any type of drawing software to draw the campus floor mapping. - Use your assumption to draw buildings (blocks) dimensions. - Students can use scale ratio for the drawing (for example: represent 1cm for 100m dimension)

For successful completion of this assessment, you require to study the material provided (lecture slides, tutorials, and reading materials), engage in the unit’s activities, and in the discussion forums. The prescribed textbook is the main reference along with the recommended reading material. You expected to discuss their work with lecturer and to seek support. In completing this assessment successfully, you will achieve ULO1, and ULO2.

Marking Criteria and Rubric: The assessment will be marked out of 100 and will be weighted 30% of the total unit mark
