CASE STUDY 1:THE DISCIPLINARY CITATION

1. What is your opinion of the manager’s approach? How does it compare with the Deming philosophy?

ANS 1: In this case study, Managers approach seems to be very traditional and conservative too. He has to change his mindset if he really want to improve the system of package delivery. As the system is manual, mistakes are bound to happen. Humans are not Robot and hence managers must understand this practical situation. Instead of issuing disciplinary citation manager must understand the root cause of the problem and develop the full prof systems so that there will be no mistake in the delivery of packages.  

If we have to compare it with Deming Philosophy, it is totally against the holistic culture of working proposed by Deming. In his philosophy, Deming rightly suggested that, Understand the purpose of inspection, drive out fear and create trust in the working environment to promote healthy working culture. Deming in his TQM leadership concept, mention that, the employee always expect that a manager must provide him honest feedback about his performance and provide  training to eliminate mistakes.       

ANS 2: Analysis of Data to understand the Variation of process have some following interpretations.

2) How might the analysis of these data help the manager to understand the variation in the system? (Plot the data to obtain some insight.) How can the data help the manager to improve the performance of this system?

1. The plot and spread of the process will indicate where it is laying i.e. above mean or below mean. Secondly spread will also indicate the proportion of error.

2. The dispersion of error will indicate the magnitude of error and corrective actions can be suggested on it.

3. For improvement of the process, each mistake can be plotted on control chart and process capability can be determine.

4. Separating the mistakes and  plotting it on control chart will really clear the picture of what types of mistakes are repeatative   and where there is need of corrective action to reduce the mistakes.
