Case Study-Motivational Analysis
Introduction
Motivation actually is the derivation of motive, which simply refers to the basic needs or desires which are present in a person. It is merely the process through which people achieve their goals by stimulation. Motivation in life is highly significant because it assists in controlling numerous aspects of life, whether they are related to emotions or not. Various theories are presented for motivation, but Maslow motivational theory is regarded as one of the best approaches in all because it is most crucial essence is the recognition of wellbeing of individuals. This theory is considered as the hierarchy theory because it is based on human needs (McLeod, 2018).
This theory provides a motivational challenge to the people because according to Maslow’s concept, when a specific need of any level is satisfied, men tend to seek the satisfaction of other needs. It merely means that, when the requirement is fulfilled then, that need doesn’t further motivate men for its struggle and these are basically five levels of meeting the needs. First level requires the satisfaction of physiological needs and then there come further satisfaction of needs such as wellbeing, communal, high regard and self-actualization satisfaction. This theory has highly motivated Nick Vujicic who was born without all four requirements means he was not physically fit other normal people (Chand, 2015).
Case description
Nick Vujicic is one of my most favorite motivational speaker in Australia. Actually, he was born in the late nineteenth century with the syndrome Tetra-Amelia. It is a disease in which a baby is born without all four limbs. He is almost thirty-six years old, and besides being a motivational speaker, he is a blockbusting author. By religion, he’s a Christian and he is the present leader of a nonprofit organization.
When Nick was born, he was a healthy child, but he was born without limbs. When he was born and started to join a school, laws for disabled children in schools changed and he went to a mainstream school where his siblings used to go instead of a special school. He was continuously bullied by other students due to which he suffered a great depression. When he was eight years old, he tried to commit suicide and even at the age of ten he tried to drown himself in the bathtub (Western, 2019).
It was highly a disappointing thing for a child, and his life almost changed at a point where his mother showed him a person who was suffering from much more severe disability than Nick. That time, he realized that he was not only one who was suffering from this kind of disability, but numerous people were struggling for their lives even with these disabilities. In his music album, he stated that God had planned something else for him due to which he did not drown in the bathtub.
Nick struggled with his two little tows and after a lot of struggle he was able to write forty-five words per minute on the computer, and it was his best achievement. After that he gradually started to throw things like tennis balls, comb his hair and brushing his teeth. In his secondary school, he was selected as the captain of the MacGregor state in Queensland and worked in student council for the collection of charities. On the age of seventeen, he started to talk to people about motivation and later he founded a nonprofit organization which is famous as life without limbs (Think Change India, 2016).
The primary reason behind his motivation was his mother who counselled him and helped him in coming out of severe depression. As one day, his mother showed him a newspaper in which a man was struggling for meeting the basic needs in his life, and that man was much more physically disabled than Nick. It clicked into his mind and he thought that the actual things in life that matter are the self-esteem and confidence, not the limbs. There are people who even after having a fit body spend a useless life because they don’t have any goals and motivation.
Nick become grateful for everything he had, and he knew that there is a lot of goodness in the world few elements of that goods have been received by Nick. He credits his parents who treated him as a normal child and his wife who loved him unconditionally. He majorly credits to Lord who made him inspiration for other people. Notable characteristics of Nick include the exemplification of goodness in human beings, the embodiment of gratitude and his wholeheartedness (Success Driven Minds, 2018).
I have learned that we should be thankful to what we have received because there may be some people who don’t even have these blessings that we are having. Accepting yourself is the actual key to success in life and as he states that “you’re beautiful just the way you’re.” Every individual should understand its worth because the Lord never makes anything worthless. According to Nick, we should be driven by courage, love and self-compassion instead being driven by fear and weaknesses. We should try to be independent and create our happiness because it is never found in the world; it is something that everyone generates for himself if he wants to.
Nick’s motivation is both intrinsic and extrinsic as he not only struggled for his own life but set an example for other people. He made people realize that hurdles on the path of success are only imaginary and will exist until we will regard them as hurdles. Once we put ourselves independently and removed the boundaries, nothing can stop us in the achievement of goals, and that is the theory of Maslow motivation.
