Student is very motivated and demonstrates grit. She stood up to her parents when she entered high school by telling them she would not allow them to pull her out of school anymore to help them clean houses and sell food on the side of the road. They had a strained relationship until her senior year when they decided to support her goal of attending a four-year post-secondary school option. She is interested in one day becoming a lawyer so that she can help underrepresented people in the future. She started her school’s first debate team.

He lives an economically diverse neighborhood.

Student is a very bright student and is classified gifted and was tested for the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. He missed qualifying for the program by a very small margin. He works weekends with his grandparents at the flea market where he manages their booth. He also picks up pieces at local yard sales and refurbishes the items to sell at the flea market, he likes to keep track of how much money he invests in an item versus how much it sells for in order to track his profit margins. He is interested in English literature and hopes to one day become a novelist. He is inspired by the work of Junot Diaz.

Student is behind units for graduation but really wants to be able to graduate with his class and on time. Student does not have any plans for post-secondary education but is open to possibilities.
