In January 2019, I was on my study break.  I tried to talk to my family and found out that my mum had been ill.  My sister was telling me some information but not telling me everything.  I decided to travel home in 10th January to find out what was happening.  When I got home, I found out that in November 2018, mum had become unwell.  She was told by her doctor at the time that her blood was not working and she was suffering from Bleeding Piles. The Doctor also said that she may get sicker and need a blood transfusion.  Only two weeks later she became sick and needed 2 lots of blood in hospital.  I found this out once I was home in January 2019.

I stayed with my family for a month and during that time, my mum slowly got better.  By mid-January, she was feeling well and I felt confident to return to Australia and get ready for my studies.  I was worried about mum, but I felt like I could still do my studies. She was still sick throughout January to June 2019.

In 10.05.19 I got a call from my Dad.  He said that mum had nearly fainted at home and that she was sick again.  He said they took her to hospital and were told that the symptoms were coming back and she needed another blood transfusion.  She was kept in hospital for about 3 days for this to happen. I was really worried about mum at this time.  I was struggling to focus and was feeling homesick.  I wanted to be home to help my mum but it was the middle of the semester so I had to stay.  I had no one to talk to in Australia as I have no family here and the only person I could talk to was my flatmate.  I knew my grades were not good.  Even the discussion board which is pretty easy, I was not doing very well.

Mum did not fully recover after she had the blood transfusion.  She was sent home to get better but she was still not well.  She continued to be unwell until June when she was again hospitalised and received further transfusions.  Throughout this whole time was concerned about my mum and really wanted to be home to help and to be with her.

After the hospital stay in June, she has been getting better.  She recently had a check and the Doctors believe she is well now.  She is gaining weight and I am less concerned about her now.

I did not realise how much I was worrying for my mum until I received fail grades for my units in that semester.  I knew I wasn’t doing well but didn’t think I would fail.

I have failed just one unit in my entire BHCS course time, and it was the unit SOC-145. It was my first semester at my course, and I was not sure about many things as I am an International student. New place, new culture and all those were not going well and I failed that unit and later on 2018 I passed the Unit with Credit. In 2019, semester-1 I failed two units because of this stress described above. Then, in semester-2, 2019 I had one unit to do which is SWK-318. I was not even doing well as I failed two units and I was stressed and scared if I fail again then it will have consequences for my visa and my COE. So, I continued to talk with my lecturer Janine Joyce for the unit SWK-318. With her advice I have been to ALLSP and online tutor provided by CDU website and worked on my essay and I ended up getting credit for the final where I was about to fail. I really worked hard and tried to give my full focus on study after the fail grades. I just have 40 credits to finish my bachelor course.
