· Style = straightforward, not conversational:

Don’t: Well, the best school for a degree in ….

Do: According to Newsweek magazine’s ranking of colleges on its website, the best school for a degree in X is the UCSD.

· Remain impartial:

Don’t: Since I like to surf and also be immersed in a nerdy environment, working at Qualcomm would be really great!

Do: Qualcomm is located in San Diego. According to the website Glassdoor, most employees are computer savvy and much of the socializing amongst employees involves “geeky activities.”

· Complete attribution: not only the title and not only author, but also where the article or info appeared—on a website? In a paper? In a book?

Don’t: According to John Smith, the average salary for …..

Do: In the article, “Payscale for PTs,” on the website PT Journal, physical therapist John Smith lists the average salary for….

· Do: Use outside sources as well as company’s own website:

Press releases, news articles, etc.

Searches for the works of or news about specific key individuals relevant to your particular skills, interests and goals.

· Do not cut & paste material from websites; do compose your own summary of key information & integrate quotes and paraphrases into your writing.

· Do: Use correct punctuation/italics for titles
