BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS (OST 1335) CAREER EXPLORATION PAPER GUIDELINES
AND POWERPOINT GUIDELINES
You will be creating an informational report on your career choice. At the beginning of
your report, discuss five strengths that you possess and relate your strengths to your
career choice.
Your report should have at least three single-spaced pages for the body of the report.
Types of information to be included in this career informational report are as follows:
Name the five strengths identified and careers
Why you chose the specific career from other related or interested careers
Description of the career
Skills required
Training and education required
Tasks, duties and responsibilities
Work environment
Future job outlook
Earnings range (annual entry and maximum)
Advantages and disadvantages of career choice
Interesting facts about career
Related occupations to career choice
Write your informational paper with your audience in mind. Your audience has no prior
knowledge of this career field.
Follow formatting guidelines as shown in Chapter 13 of the text book on pages 469 to
499. You will not need to include an executive summary or conclusions and
recommendations as discussed in the chapter. At the end of an informational report, a
“Conclusion” is used.

Review Chapter 14 “Business Presentations”. This chapter provides helpful tips for
planning, creating and completing your PowerPoint slides.
Other Tips
Keep visuals simple; spotlight major points only.
Make your slides attractive and free from errors.
Use graphics on the slides for interest. You should have at least 5 graphics in your presentation.
Include title slide (title, your name) and works cited slide of resources used for presentation.
Create a PowerPoint presentation on your career topic. Keep your audience in mind and
include interesting facts about your career choice. Your audience has no prior knowledge
of this career choice.
