Project Details

Description

• Provide an outline for the context of the project.

Data warehousing is extensively used in business intelligence which is a part of information systems.

The content of this project will discuss data warehousing, the importance of it in information systems,

specifically when it comes to business intelligence. The project will focus on what data warehousing

is, what family does it belong to, issues and importance of data warehousing by giving examples and

why they are preferred more in comparison to databases these days. The reasons why data

warehousing are created will be very important in this project. The project will discuss by giving

examples of companies where data warehousing are used, focusing on their reasons and benefits.

Goals of the project

• What will the project accomplish?

• What are the objectives and are they measurable?

The project objectives are measurable due to improved business agility and performance outcomes.

Similarly, the objectives accommodate specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound

criteria on a real-time and integrated platform to support information systems in business strategic IT

initiatives and, measurable on how big data problems are manageable via data warehousing on

information systems and business intelligence.

Relationship to your IT Stream

• How does it relate to the stream you are specialising in?

• Will it require learning new skills?

• What are the major skills required for this project?

Our team members’ career goals are to become ICT Business Analyst. As we have already completed

Business Intelligence and Data Mining, Enterprise IT Management, Project Management & Database

Concepts. Therefore, to successfully complete this project, will not require learning any new skills for

us apart from the guidance from our supervisor.

Project Deliverables

• What are the projects deliverables?

• What values and benefits of this project?

• What is its relevance to your work context?

• What is its relevance to you?

• What will you gain by completing this project?

The project's main objective is to find out the role of data warehousing on information systems,

accommodating business intelligence. Significantly, information technology advancement is geared

towards improved applications in business organizations to support efficiency, agility, profitability,

and continuation at a cost-effective platform. Similarly, the project identifies technologies such as data

warehousing projects in information technology systems, resonating with fundamental IT projects in

improving business performance efficiently and cost-effectively.

At a personal level, the project provides fundamental relevance with our ambition and need to apply

information technologies to improve business in a real-world situation, accommodating business

intelligence concepts. Similarly, accommodating detailed literature in data warehousing would

improve our knowledge and understanding of data warehousing on information systems and business

intelligence. Thus, the project accommodates general and personal relevance towards improved

performance in business enterprises.

Project Scope

• How broad is the project?

• What are the potential challenges and complications?

• How feasible is it?

• Will it require one or two semesters?

• Is it related to current or past studies?

The project will require one semester. Notably, the project is limited to finding out the role of data

warehousing on information systems, accommodating business intelligence, and improvement of

business agility. The project accommodates concepts of business intelligence and data warehousing

on how information systems are achievable. However, there are notable limitations, including the

need to evaluate how emergent technologies, accommodating real-time and integrated data

warehousing impacts the future of DW and applications in basslines intelligence. Noteworthy,

accommodating data mining, data warehouse, and business intelligence in information system the

project is feasible because there is a fundamental framework to achieve project objectives and goals.

Therefore, the project will operate within the praxis of data warehousing concepts to improve

business intelligence as an IT strategy in a business organization.

PROJECT DEFINATION & SCOPE

Introduction: Technology is leading the world and therefore managing data efficiently plays a big role in any

organisation’s IT activities. Most organization’s IT departments used excel for budgeting strategy but

that comes with lots of challenges, like flexibility in preparing budget strategy, difficulty in

consolidation of the specified budget, and mostly deployment of budget plans.

To solve these problems, data warehousing plays an important role in any organization’s information

systems sector. Such as centralized data warehouse should be able to manage all financial expenses,

whether this it is planned earlier or came in place all sudden.

In an attempt to evaluate how strategic business IT initiatives such as data warehouse and support on

information systems within a business organization, there is a significant need to accommodate data

warehouse as a data repository and data warehousing as an entire process that facilitates utilization

of data collection created to support decision-making within business intelligence platforms.

Background/description of context/need/benefits: Managing big data and information within the business organizations has proven challenging with

increased and advancement in information technology adaptation by business organizations,

unavailing the need for a business strategy and IT initiative to solve such problems. In an attempt to

solve such issues within a business organization, the objective of this project is to find out the roles of

Data Warehousing on Information Systems, accommodating business intelligence.

In this project, we, as a team, plan to work on researching about the issues and importance of data

warehousing, from researching what data warehousing is, by giving examples of data warehousing, to

why are they used, to why don’t organisations rely on databases and why they have to come data

warehousing for help, the extensive use of data warehousing in business intelligence, also the reason

why data warehousing are created will be a focused on this project. By the completion of this project,

we will be able to provide an in-depth research about the role of data warehousing on information

systems.

Aims & Objectives: • Support decision-making within business intelligence platforms. Data warehousing and

business intelligence are used together to create specific insight into business operations, and

this provides strong arguments in the support of business decisions.

• Accomplish identification of the contribution to data warehousing in information system

accommodating business intelligence, and improvement of business agility.

• Manage highlighting how modern data warehousing contribution has accommodated

fundamental characteristics such as a real-time and integrated platform to support

information system in business strategic IT initiative.

• Achieve describing how data warehousing as a process for electronic data gathering,

accommodating trove historical data for analysis and decision-making in the big data era to

manage significant data in organization operation systems.

Scope: Data warehousing is the vast collection of business data, which helps make a business decision. To

reveal business intelligence an effective decision support system is required which is helpful in the

transition of data. The concept of data warehousing was introduced in 1980. Data comes from

different sources which range from internal applications and external applications. Data from different

sources is extracted in the appropriate format and is then imported to an appropriate format that is

supportive of increasing business intelligence. There is a scope and are substantial benefits that help

increase business analytics and several business benefits. Data sources should be added to the data

warehouse which helps to make a better presentation of data. To obtain relevant data from different

sources there is a need to use analytics tools and data warehousing helps to store data with

appropriate quality and integrity. The faster decision helps to get more productivity and increased

revenue and that is possible with the use of data warehousing.

PROJECT ACTIVITIES, DELIVERABLES & RISK

Project timeline, deliverables: Below is our project timeline and plan for next weeks which we have made as team to deliver this

project successfully :

Risk: One of the risks is a lack of mission and objectives. To handle this risk, the objective should be first

identified. Security and privacy issues in deploying data warehouse projects is high which can result

to cyber security concerns if privacy mechanisms are not wisely chosen by developers.
