THE UNITED NATIONS

After the end of the second world war in 1945, the world saw the need for international peace and security. For this particular reason, the United Nations came to be so that they could unite the world. The United Nations majorly has three core values that it holds; professionalism, integrity, and respect for diversity (United Nations, 2020). On professionalism, the United nations want to ensure they achieve what is considered hard while also aim for excellence in their undertakings. On integrity, the united nations want to come clean and transparent on what they advocate for and the decisions they make. Coming to respect for diversity, since the UN is made up of several countries, they ensure every voice is heard.

Core Values

These UN core values align with leadership, advocacy, and social change. On leadership, the UN ensures that people who get into administration have these values and the leaders continue to respect these core values in their direction. When a leader is elected into the United Nations council, it has to be ensured these are the values that he advocates for when it comes to matters of international peace. On advocacy and social change, the UN keeps true to its core values by ensuring they involve themselves with activities that seem to be going against their set values on world peace. These core values are beneficial to the UN and member countries, it is what they align their decisions on, and it also helps them earn trust from member countries.

Mission

Coming to the mission of the United Nations, they maintain global peace and security, protect human rights, deliver humanitarian aid, nurture sustainable development, and uphold international peace (United Nations, 2020). This mission statement aligns with the core values very well; for example, their mission statement shows respect for other countries, which is part of the core value. The mission statement also shows to be inclusive as they consider matters affecting developing and already developed countries to come up with their final mission. The mission statement first promotes advocacy; this is where they maintain global peace and security. Their mission statement also shows that they advocate for human rights while also ensuring that they uphold international peace. The mission statement also promotes leadership in their whole mission statement. The mission statement shows all that leadership should be about, and the UN leads by example by sticking to their mission statement. The United Nations also promote social change as they nurture sustainable development and protect human rights.

The United Nations mission statement is evident in how they contribute to the well-being of individuals, societies, and international communities. First, by ensuring that they maintain global peace and security, the United Nations promotes the well being of individuals as they bring about the usual business environment due to the presence of peace. When the peace is taken away in cases of war, the United Nations also comes to help restore the peace so that individuals go about their regular business as usual. The UN also promotes the well-being of individuals and international communities by nurturing sustainable development. This is by promoting economic, social, and cultural development of different countries around the world, which ends up being a benefit to the people (Bebbington and Unerman, 2018).

Vision

The vision of the United Nations is to be seen as the global hope for matters on peace and security, promoting and protecting human rights, sustainable development, and working towards social change (United Nations, 2020). The vision of the United Nations aligns very well with its core values. On integrity, the United Nations takes responsibility by keeping loyal to their global peace primary agenda. This is what brings out the United Nations as a body that is true to its course. In respect for diversity, the united nations want to ensure that global peace is achieved by ensuring all voices are heard. If all voices are listened to and people in the final end come to an agreement, this one simple way of maintaining global peace and security. The vision of the United Nations being closely related to their mission statement also promotes advocacy, leadership, and social change. Sticking to their mission statement is what helps them to move towards the long-termed vision, and therefore the two have to align. Therefore, considering that the mission statement also works towards contributing to the well-being of individuals, societies, and international communities, the vision statement will also work towards achieving this. This is clearly evident in the vision being closely related to the mission of the organization.

Key stakeholders

The United Nations major stakeholders comprise nine groups; businesses and industries, farmers, children and youth, women, indigenous people, NGOs, local authority, scientific and technological community, workers, and trade unions (UN Department of Economics and Social Affairs, 2020). The Internal stakeholders in the organization are the local governments and NGOs, with all the other significant groups being external stakeholders. The role of the internal stakeholders is in the leadership; they help the UN to achieve its set mission and values. On the external stakeholders, these are the recipients of the services that are offered by the United Nations. Starting with the external stakeholders, they give out first-hand information on what needs to be done by considering their personal challenges. The internal stakeholders, the local governments and NGOs, pass on this information from the community around them to the United Nations. The information passed on is very vital in the strategic plan development.
