Providing healthcare services to residents in rural areas has presented increased challenges that include access and cost. For your Capstone Project, you will be using a case study that focuses on Pocahontas Memorial Hospital located in Pocahontas County, West Virginia. For case study details, click here.

Pocahontas Memorial Hospital (PMH) would like to offer a comprehensive satellite health clinic within Pocahontas County. You have been contracted to prepare a report for the PMH Board of Directors that will guide them in determining the feasibility of doing this.
Your report should be organized according to the following structure and contain the elements described:
· Introduction: This is where you introduce your audience to what this report will cover.
· Discussion of whether the organization’s mission statement and goals support the project
· Assessment: This is your evaluation of various factors that affect the feasibility and development of the project.
· The environmental challenges, access for consumers, and technology required
· Mission, vision, values, and goals
· A market analysis
· A SWOT analysis
· Recommendations: This is where you detail your recommendations. Your recommendations should be based directly on what you outlined in your assessment.
· Strategies for attracting healthcare professionals
· Develop strategic initiatives
· Strategies for financial management
· Annotated bibliography
· Conclusion: This brief summary should pull together your assessment and recommendations and leave the audience with a clear sense of what can be done.
Your well-written report should meet the following requirements:
· Be 11–15 pages in length
· Be formatted according to the APA guidelines
· Include at least 10 peer-reviewed references to support your report. The Shapiro Library is a good place to find these sources.
· Include an outline, market analysis, and SWOT analysis in the Appendix
Objectives
To successfully complete this project, you will be expected to apply what you have learned in healthcare management courses and should include several of the following course objectives:
· Demonstrate an understanding of the U.S. healthcare system including its organization, structure, delivery modalities, performance, and terminology
· Promote positive and effective change and transformation within healthcare organizations
· Promote innovation in strategic planning and healthcare administration strategies for optimal organizational performance

Format
Format of Final Project Submission: The paper will be a Microsoft Word document that will be turned during Module Eight. The PowerPoint presentation will be saved as a PDF file. The presentation will be submitted in the Module Nine discussion board. Both the paper and presentation need to be in APA format.
Instructions
1. Create professional-looking cover sheets for both your paper and presentation. The cover sheet should include your name, date, and title.
2. Create a reference list for both the paper and the presentation. As you go through each module’s activities, update your APA-formatted reference list.
3. Module One: Mission, Vision, Values, and Goals
· Create a cover sheet for your paper.
· Create an introduction for your paper.
· Identify the mission, vision, values, and goals for Pocahontas Memorial Hospital. Create a list that will become part of your completed paper.
· Create a cover sheet for your presentation and a slide to discuss the mission, vision, values, and goals.
4. Module Two: Annotated Bibliography and Reference List
· Create an annotated bibliography for your paper.
When conducting a literature review on a topic, it is useful to keep an annotated bibliography of potential sources that will be used in your writing. For more information about preparing an annotated bibliography, click on this link: Purdue OWL (2013): Annotated Bibliographies.
· Create a reference list for your presentation.
5. Module Three: Market Analysis
· Create a section in your paper for the market analysis. In your market analysis, identify the segments (potential patients, physicians, etc.) and provide a summary of your findings. The market analysis produced will be used in the final submission of your Capstone Project.
Your well-written market analysis should meet the following requirements:
· 3–4 pages in length
· Formatted according to APA 6th edition guidelines
· Create a chart for your presentation that summarizes your marketing analysis.
6. Module Four: SWOT Analysis/Strategic Planning
· Prepare a SWOT analysis that will be included in the appendix of your final project.
· Create a slide in your presentation to present your SWOT analysis.
7. Module Five: Recruitment and Retention
· Create an Annotated Outline
This week you will submit an outline of your Capstone Project. Your outline should include the four sections listed in the Capstone Project description (introduction, assessment, recommendation, conclusion), with sources from your reference list (created in Module Two) linked to the appropriate section. Your outline should be detailed and specific.
Your well-written outline should meet the following requirements:
· 2–3 pages in length
· Formatted according to APA 6th edition guidelines
Include the annotated outline as an appendix to your paper.
· Create a list of strategies that can be used for attracting and retaining healthcare employees. The list will be used in your project paper.
· Create a slide in your presentation that discusses your strategies for attracting and retaining healthcare employees.
8. Module Six: Social Intelligence and Collaboration Recommendations
· The social media arena offers unique challenges to healthcare organizations that are developing, implementing, and evaluating strategic planning efforts. Examine the impact that social media and marketing have on the strategic planning efforts within healthcare organizations. Create a list of recommendations on how the Pocahontas Memorial Hospital can be socially intelligent and collaborate with key stakeholders on organization initiatives. The list will become part of the recommendations section of your capstone paper.
· Create a slide in your presentation that will discuss your recommendations for social intelligence and collaboration.
9. Module Seven: Strategic Initiatives
· Create a list of strategic initiatives in regard to financial management. Consider items such as billing, payroll, insurance reimbursement, accounts payable, accounts receivable, grants, and other areas. Include your strategic initiatives in both your paper and presentation.
10. Module Eight: Providing Health Services in a Rural Community (Project Feasibility)
· Summarize your assessments and include them in your paper and presentation. Gather your assessments, lists that were created, analysis, and other information pertaining to your capstone paper. Create a summary that discusses your assessment and recommendations.
· Make sure you have completed all of the elements for your presentation.
· Review your presentation for grammar, spelling, content, and citations. Be sure that your reference list is completed for the presentation.
· Submit your completed presentation via the link in Module Eight.
· Post a copy of your presentation in the Module Nine discussion forum.
11. Module Nine: Finalizing your Capstone Paper
· Make sure you have completed all of the elements for your paper. (The capstone case is listed above.)
· Review your paper for grammar, spelling, content, and citations. Be sure that your reference list is completed for both the paper and presentation.

Final Paper Rubric
