Reflective Letter
After careful deliberation, I’ve finally considered the three items to use for my portfolio to be my video practice interview, cover letter template, and work experience. These three items represent how dedicated I can be and how important my main purpose is when I put forth effort in working any job. I can surely say that because of my parents, I have the characteristics of a determined hard worker that can be portrayed at any job. Working on this portfolio, it was a tad bit hard deciding for this trio because my initial choices didn’t quite tell a story about myself when put together. It was random pieces of information that (to me) didn’t tie well with what I believed would let the reader know about me.
As I began thinking about what I wanted my portfolio to be comprised of, I originally had the personal statement, branding mood board, and video practice interview as what I wanted to tell my story. It was mostly because in those three artifacts I thought they had enough information about myself to tell the reader. But as I worked on the rest of the items throughout the semester, I realized that they didn’t portray enough. I ended up changing the personal statement and branding mood board for the cover letter template and the work experience. Those two artifacts gave more details about who I am as a person and my determination compared to the last two artifacts.
This portfolio reflects my full understanding, creativity, and intellectual capacity as it showcases my work ethic and commitment, I put forth in doing a job. I've grown up watching my mom and stepdad work crazy hours and sometimes odd jobs to provide for the family. There was a certain point in my life where it seems like they took turns on who would spend the most hours working for the day/week while the other (would still work) worked fewer hours to care for my little sisters and myself. Once they finally found their forever job, they showed how passionate they were in that job. It may be a cliché because everyone has to work to make a living but not everyone will be so devoted to their job like I have been in mines.
The submission that I worked hard on and I’m most proud of would have to be my work experience artifact. Doing this artifact made me realize how much of a hard worker I’ve become and how motivated I am to learn new things, get things done, and be a team player. Knowing the fact that my hard work and perseverance in doing a good job will help me achieve greater professional success in the future is what keeps me going throughout a workday. I find it quite meaningful to demonstrate certain qualities and techniques when working not just for myself but also with everyone else in the business.
While curating this portfolio I liked how there were steps taken throughout the semester to help me prepare what I wanted to present in my portfolio. From the looking ahead to the starting work and even the class presentation of the capstone portfolio assignments, they all helped me in assembling the three artifacts that told a story about myself. And by doing everything in steps, I was able to rethink what I wanted to add and
remove what I felt was haphazard for the portfolio. If those assignments weren’t there, I’m sure I wouldn’t have put as much thought and effort into the portfolio as I just did. I especially liked getting feedback from my classmates on how they enjoyed reading the work I’ve done on my portfolio, it made me feel good about my selections being that I put so much thought into them. If given the chance to go back in time to prepare this assignment differently I’d probably think more carefully about the information I have written in the artifacts. What I have right now is good, but I could always make it better by being more thorough with details about myself.
Short Script:
Hello to all, I hope your day is starting great. In my communication scenario, I am the new assistant manager for David’s Bridal. I begin by thanking everyone for welcoming me to the team and how it’s an honor to be a part of such an amazing group of individuals. I added a little background story of how I started working in the industry, how long I’ve been working in it, what I’ve gained in knowledge, and the impact it’s given me throughout the years. In the video, you’ll hear me speak about my leadership skills which I believe is the reason why I’ll be a great fit for the position. I elaborate on some of my management styles that I prefer but I am open to new styles to run the team together efficiently. I bring the video to a close, by motivating the team with my expectations to treat each other with respect, never be afraid to think outside the box, and let them know that I’ll be giving my all to support them.

and having problem-solving skills encouraged me to evolve in each company I worked for. I would enforce my communication, some math, and even a little business knowledge that I attained from courses taken for my degree into the jobs I worked. I began to understand that I was meant to work in the field with customers and was not doubtful in handling the duties and responsibilities it took to do the job. I have worked in retail for over seven years, with experience in the basics of customer service such as being accountable and professional, showing leadership, handling cash, dealing with problems, and having responsibility skills, just to name a few. I grew to have more confidence and be more compassionate as I aimed to show off my skills when challenged as a team leader in customer service.
There have been occasions where I would notice how employees come to me with concerns and questions instead of the managers during a workday. After some careful observations of the managers with the employees, I realized that there was a difference in style to how they treated and handled situations. Certain techniques can be what distinguishes a leader from a boss and since I cared for my job and the employees, I worked with I was acting more as a leader compared to those managers. Just as I would have good days, I would also have days where I have to work out problems, and that might include hard situations that I wouldn't know how to fix at first but end up trying to solve to make a customer happy. With my leader attitude, I always strive to assist everyone as we work as a team. Through years of experience, I acknowledge that teamwork has a different effect on employees and keeping them happy will give them motivation and a better work ethic that'll help them work efficiently as compared to if they were unhappy. Overcoming obstacles in my supervising position was another phase I went through in the customer service industry. Because I enjoy problem-solving, it was my duty to solve problems and find mistakes in them using critical thinking, with every operation and transaction involving money I would do a deep search in tracking how a register got short of money and de-escalating any hostile situations, these were skills I've attained from courses related to my degree. There’s nothing more gratifying than evolving as a person all while expanding on new skills accomplishing something you truly appreciate and have experience in.
