When selecting the literature to be used, the relevance to the topic and the currency will be a key determinant. To ensure that the literature is current, only literature from the last five years will be used in this study. Additionally, keywords will be used in researching the literature to ensure that it relates to the topic of effective communication.
Literature Review
The literature review will be used to discuss the previous literature that has been done on the topic. From the review of the literature, two major themes were revealed. They include the theme of communication in the military and the need for effective communication in organizations.
Communication in the military
Wallenius and Nilsson (2019) investigated the factors that affected the use of strategic communication in the military domain. The study indicated that the psychological operations implied a purposeful use of communication by the military organization to fulfill its mission and the understanding of strategic communication. The study identified that several factors affected strategic communication in the military. They included human cognitive conservatism, identification with one’s group, sense of threat to the resources, perception of hostility from other groups, and the experience that one’s group has been devalued or offended by another group. The study shows the need for effective communication in the military and thus it supports the purpose of the study. Additionally, it helps in answering the first research question.
Liaw et al. (2018) supported the study by stating the significance of effective communication in the military. This study studied the effects of applying effective communication to promote quality management of the military. Quality management focuses on improving the productivity of employees and boosting the overall organization performance. In the case of the military, quality management entails achieving their set objectives effectively. The study indicated that effective communication is essential in promoting the success of military operations. It showed that there was a direct relationship between the effectiveness of communication and the quality implementation in military operations.
Valor-Segura et al. (2020) investigated the relationship between emotional intelligence, teamwork communication, and job attitudes among military cadets. According to the study, there was a positive relationship between emotional intelligence, positive job attitudes, and teamwork communication. The cadets that had a high emotional intelligence portrayed effective team communication skills. Additionally, they had a positive job attitude. That indicates that effective communication has positive effects in military service. The study is relevant to the topic under discussion. It will be used to show the essence of effective communication in the military as well as help achieve the purpose of the study.
This theme is relevant to the research topic, which is effective communication in the workplace. It shows the effects of effective communication in military service. The theme answers the first research question of the study. It also fulfills the purpose of the study by indicating the need for effective communication in the military to enhance improved and successful operations.
The need for effective communication in organizations
According to Touhidul and Sorooshian (2019), communication is an essential part o an organization. It determines the effectiveness of an organization through the quality of employee interactions among themselves and with the management. The study indicated that there is a need to balance effective communication in the organization. It shared that effective communication leads to effective collaboration and teamwork thus promoting the effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity of an organization. The authors of the article indicated that there are a lot of technologies that can be adopted today to promote effective communication in an organization. Such technologies should be harnessed to ensure that effective communication is achieved in an organization.
Villa et al. (2017) used concepts drawn from communication theories to foster the understanding of the impact of effective communication mechanisms in an organization. The peer0-reviewed article is based on a case study of a humanitarian organization. The data was collected through the use of structured interviews and open-ended questionnaires. The study results indicated that effective communication in an organization had a significant contribution to the success and productivity of an organization. Effective communication strategies should be adopted to ensure that an organization achieves its goals and objectives successfully. Additionally, the study indicated that effective communication in an organization promoted employee engagement and collaboration, which has a positive effect on the organization.

The article indicated that organizational communication is a critical area in an organization. It enables the transfer of information from the management to the employees and the reporting of results from the employees to the management. Thus, organizational communication ensures that there is a free flow of information in an organization. That reduces the risk of information asymmetry that may have adverse effects on an organization.
