Before starting the course unit in unit 1, there was less understanding of the three concepts, rule of law, human rights and international justice. All that was known was that they were legal terms that relied on existence of law. However, the relationship between the concepts was not well-understood. There has been evolution in the understanding of the concepts and how they are applied in the modern society. From the course content learnt since week 1, rule of law as one of the aspects is an important aspect of good governance. The rule of law entails enforcing criminal laws in accordance with internationally recognized human rights norms and standards, and ensuring the integrity of all institutions; public and private. Ethics and rules for human conduct are known as human rights, and they are routinely upheld (Donnelly, 2013). Human rights are the fundamental freedoms and rights that belong to everyone, from conception until death. Many people credit the International Court of Justice with helping to advance human rights protections on a global scale (United Nations, n.d.). From this analysis as derived over the weeks in class, it is evident the three terms are related in the way they work together towards attainment of peaceful coexistence among people in the society.
