Campaign strategy
GOVERNOR
DEMOCRATIC PARTY
NEW YORK
Issues to focus on(1)
Worsening traffic in new York city
Drivers spend 13% of their time in traffic congestion
On –demand vehicles such as lyft and uber are drawing people off buses and trains, thus, packing has become a problem
There are excessive trucks and cars in the roadway due to lack of mass transit options
Increased number of pedestrians crossing at intersections has contribute to the issue
Issues to focus on(2)
2. Soil and land use
Former industrial areas are still full of contaminants from the previous occupants
Chemicals can remain in the soil for many years
The chemicals would have consequences on individuals who happen to live near the sites
The land did not undergo cleaning for reuse preparation
Issues to focus on(3)
3. Water and ecology
The quality of aquatic habitats has been degraded
The combined sewer system contributes to channeling of raw sewage into local waterways
Many beaches are however closed during floods, as more dirt is swept into the water
Issues to focus on(4)
4. Food and public health
Fresh fruits and vegetables are no longer part of human rights, they are now considered as luxury, they are thus no longer affordable
Cheap, unhealthy and processed options have emerged as main staples
People now live on food deserts
The outcome is increased public health problems, e.g. heart diseases and obesity
Issues to focus on(5)
5. Waste and resource consumption
More than 12,000 tons of solid waste are produced within the city
New York city seem to have stopped taking care of its own garbage
Burning of trash is no longer done.
Landfills have been closed, some have been converted into parks
Solutions on table for the issues(1)
Worsening traffic in new York city
My intentions if I am elected governor
Congestion pricing. If elected governor, I am intending to charge drivers entering the busiest parts of the city
Posting traffic agents to eliminate delays for example at fifth avenue, by helping vehicle cross on a red signal
Banning parking during peak hours so as to create an extra lane near intersections for the vehicles turning to the right
Solutions on table for the issues(2)
2. Soil and land use
Put land use planning policy into use. This is to create an enabling environment where development of land resources can occur, to meet the needs of the people
Ensuring that industrial sites have been cleared in case the occupants leave, to make the land safe for the next individuals to settle in
Solutions on table for the issues(3)
3. Water and resource consumption
Ban the use of bottles, coffee-mugs, and grocery bags that are not reusable
Start a composting program , which uses eggshells and other items that can rot, then spreading them to community gardens to create affordable produce
Solutions on table for the issues(4)
4. Food and public health
Link retailers having problems acquiring healthy food products with distributors or farmers
Encourage the Health insurance navigator program , through which community members can acquire low cost or free health insurance plans
