CA 2 - Sensor Research Exercise

As part of an interview process you have been informed that you have to prepare a power point presentation outlining some of the basic operating principles of electrical sensors.

Areas covered should include: (not limited to these areas)

· Difference between discreet/ digital and analogue sensors. Provide one example of each.

· Difference between contact and non-contact sensors. Provide one example of each.

· In relation to a digital/ discreet sensor what is hysterisis/ why is it necessary? Use an example to illustrate.

· Difference between electromechanical and solid state sensor outputs.

· Outline the difference between capacitive and inductive proximity sensors in terms of the type of target they can detect. Provide two advantages and two disadvantages for each type of sensor.

· In relation to inductive sensors, outline the impact the target material and size has on sensing distance.

· Typical operating voltage range for DC powered sensors.
