Company Profile

You work for Wallis & Co, a global insurance, broking and risk management firm with offices in over 80 countries. The company headquarters are in Nashville Tennessee. The company specializes in property and casualty insurance, within which there are numerous basic transactional activities such as renewals, loss runs, data management and the activities in support functions such as IT, Finance and HR.

The company has already offshored some activities to a Center in Mumbai (India) but is looking to move more transactional activities to an offshore center as well as setting up 2 ‘Expertise Centers’ in Nashville and Tampa. You have been assigned (either as an individual or as a pair) to provide the company with an assessment of the suitability of a specific country.

You should select ONE of the following countries for your assessment:

China

You should collect data on your selected country’s social, political, economic and infrastructure dynamics which will impact on the decision to do business in that country.

You should:

· Inform Professor McEwen whether you are working individually or as a pair by October 8th

· Submit a high-level overview PowerPoint presentation by October 17th which should contain:

a. Details on size, population, languages, basic political and economic data, infrastructure data

· Submit a final PowerPoint presentation by November 26th which sets out:

a. Positive reasons why Wallis should set up centers in the specific country you have chosen

b. Reasons why Wallis should be cautious about moving to your selected country

c. Final summary recommendations on suitability - yes, no, potentially, with reasons
