Assignment #1
You will be creating a “project charter” like paper and project schedule regarding the project of your choice.
In selecting your project, please remember the following
your project is unique (not something that you do on a routine basis)
relies of a set of activities to deliver something(s) to a customer
relies on the use of resources, mainly labor, but may include materials & equipment
each activity must be assigned to at least one resource
has a start and finish date
must be at least 25 activities
If you don’t have a project to use, please consider using the same project that is posted in our classroom

Assignment #1
You will be submitting two parts for your Assignment #1
Paper:
A written paper that covers all of the items listed in the checklist
Each section should be it own paragraph that has a heading
Project Schedule:
A MS Project schedule of your project that contains at least 25 activities
Each activity will have a start and end date
At this point, you do not need to assign resources to your activities
Your project will have a start date (to coincide with the start date of your first activity) and an end date (to coincide with the end date of your last activity)

Sample Project for Discussion
In order to provide you an example for ‘attacking’ your project, here is my sample project
The owner of the LA Rams needs to secure a new stadium for his football team by 2018
The stadium will house all Rams games as well as college bowl games in the greater LA area
The stadium must be located near to mass transit and major highways

Section I - Project Summary:
In this section, you will provide at least a one paragraph (4 complete sentences per paragraph) summary of your project
Describe the purpose of your project
Identify who will be your customer
Identify when you plan to start the project and when the project should end.
Example: The purpose of my project is to deliver a low-cost, high-tech stadium for the LA Rams. The stadium will be located near to the LA Airport. The primary customer for the project will be the owner of the LA Rams. The project will commence in April 2016 with a completion date of September 2018.

Section II -Project Goals & Objectives:
In this section, you will provide a two paragraph (4 complete sentences per paragraph) summary that identifies and describes the goals & objectives of your project
You will need to identify 3 goals & objective
Example: The goals & objectives of this project will be to (a) deliver a high-security low cost stadium to the Rams’ owner; (b) deliver a stadium that can housed 75,000 fans; © deliver the project under budget and on-time; (d) ensure that the stadium meeting all of the standards for Green (environment-free) construction standards; (e) deliver a stadium that will serve as the model for future stadium projects; and (f) deliver a stadium that the Rams and the NFL would be proud of.

Section III - Project Deliverables: In this section, you will provide a one paragraph (4 complete sentences per paragraph) summary of your project’s key deliverables.
Identify and discuss each of the key deliverables of from the project
Examples: Some of the deliverables with my project include (a) a multi-story stadium to support staffing needs for the Rams; (b) parking spaces to support parking of 15,000 fans ; © plenty of world-class amenities; and (d) practice facilities and HQ offices.

Section IV - Project Tasks & Activities: In this section, you will provide a one paragraph (4 complete sentences per paragraph) summary of your project’s key tasks & activities. Be sure to treat this in a phased-approach (e.g. Planning; Building; Validating & Testing; Delivery; Project Closeout) in which you highlight the key tasks & activities in each phase.
You can pull some of this information from your project schedule, but at a high-level viewpoint

Section V - Project Resources & Costs: In this section, you will provide a one paragraph (4 complete sentences per paragraph) summary of your project’s costs & resources
Example: In order to complete a project of this magnitude, I am expecting to expend $2.75B, of which $1.4B will be related to materials. I will be relying on a variety of contractors to assist with the project. All of the contractors will be union-based employees who will undergo background checks.

Section VI -Project Deadlines: In this section, you will provide a one paragraph summary of your project’s key deadlines
Identify and discuss the key deadlines
What is the earliest and latest your project should start & finish
What is the earliest and latest that your project should reach the 50% completion mark
What is the earliest and latest that your project should reach the 75% completion mark
Example: I am expecting the project to start on time. There is no way the project can start early, based upon funding and approval. While we anticipate finishing on schedule, weather delays may cause a slight delay in the schedule. We should be at the 50% mark in April 2017 and at the 75% in April 2018.

Section VII -Project Challenges: In this section, you will provide a one paragraph (4 complete sentences per paragraph) summary that identify what phase of your project will be the biggest challenge and why.
Identify and discuss the biggest challenges for your project and why.
Example: The biggest challenge for my project includes weather delays and the delays in associated with processing background checks for construction workers.
