BUS 300: Business Professional Development
Team Project and Presentation Assignment Due: Based on assigned schedule; 15 Points
Assignment Overview The goals of this assignment are:
1. To practice what you are learning regarding team building, collaboration and effective communication while working on your presentation assignment
2. To learn how to organize and deliver an engaging presentation with the support of PowerPoint
3. To develop a deeper understanding of your career interests and opportunities
This assignment will prepare you for conducting future professional presentations throughout your career as well as your Senior Experience presentations. You will conduct peer evaluations of other team members based on their contributions to this assignment.
Team Expectations After you form your team, you will negotiate a team contract. This will be discussed in class.
All team members are expected to fully participate, hold one another accountable, and encourage each other in seeking out informational interviews with professionals in career fields of interest. Think of yourselves as a mini-network.
Presentation Assignment • Each team should consist of 3-4 members with similar career interests. • Each team member will conduct 5 informational interviews with individuals in an agreed upon
career interest area and complete the Informational Interview Documentation Form. • Before you conduct your interviews, meet as a team to determine some common questions to
ask all your interviewees. This will help create a more cohesive presentation. Each team member is encouraged to also ask additional questions of personal interest.
• You will present the outcomes of your Informational Interviews. • Groups should consider a theme that will tie the presentation together. For example, did you
find a common outlook from professionals in your field of interest? Did you hear about a common industry trend?
• In addition to what you learn from your informational interviews, you should also supplement your presentation with research:
o Include an analysis of at least 10 LinkedIn profiles of individuals with similar career paths that the team is exploring. What do you notice about these individuals and their experience, skills, certifications, education, etc.?
o Use Glassdoor to research what employees are saying about the types of companies you are interested in and/or type of work you are interested in pursuing.
o If you learn about a new software, product, service technique, etc. that professionals are encouraging you to learn or know more about, share this information in your presentation as well.
• No more than 15 minutes per presentation.

Presentation Must Haves 1. Everyone must have a speaking role in this presentation. 2. Dress in business casual attire. 3. A PPT Presentation. Do not read from your slides; watch the PPT video by Wayne Neu on how
to create an effective PPT presentation. Minimize using note cards. 4. A Hook. Consider how you will capture the audience’s attention.
TIPS • A PowerPoint is more effective with less. DO NOT PUT EVERYTHING YOU WILL SAY ON THE
PPT. Headlines are OK to help you transition. • Look at the audience, smile, and take deep breaths. • Practice, practice, practice.
