BUS 2 – College or Local Library Project

This project is intended to expose you to some of the additional Legal reference sources that are available to you at the college library. If you are not near our campus, you should be able to find similar sources at your local library.

1. Go to the Reference Librarian of the College library, or local public library, and ask if they have an encyclopedia of American Law. One example that many libraries carry is the West’s Encyclopedia of American Law , or Gale Encyclopedia of American Law , which is a 12 or 13-volume set, depending on the edition. Scan through the volumes of the legal encyclopedia that you have found, and choose any Business Law topic you are interested in (examples: Contracts; Business Torts; Libel). After reading the topic, briefly summarize what the topic was about, and one new thing you learned about this topic that you didn’t know before:

2. See if the library has another source of legal reference information, such as The U.S. Justice System: An Encyclopedia . Choose a different topic from one of these volumes; read & summarize as you did for Question 1:

3. Other Law-Related Books. Ask the Reference Librarian to show you how to locate other Business Law-related books in the library. You can use another book in the reference section (examples: Guide to the U.S. Supreme Court; Indian Treaties; Basic Legal Forms, etc), or you can go to the Law section in the general stacks. Describe which book you chose to look at, and why it was of interest to you:
