Bullying In Schools
Purpose: To persuade thee audience on the need to prevent bullying in schools.
Specific Purpose: To enlighten the audience on the adverse effects of bullying on students,
especially in their emotional status and academic performance.
Thesis: Bullying, in any form, has a significant impact on the emotional status as well as
academic performance of the students.
- Introduction
A. Opening statement: Bullying is a widespread problem that continues to affect students,
especially in high school. This is attributed to the fact that there is a significant increase of
digitalization, where students have access to the internet, which is a platform for
cyberbullying.
B. Thesis: Bullying, In any form, has a huge impact on the emotional status of the students.
C. Preview of Main Points:
1: First, I will define bullying and list the different types.
2: Secondly, I will explain the effects of bullying.
3. Lastly, I will discuss ways to prevent bullying.
- Bullying, in any form, has a significant impact on the emotional status of the student.
A. Bullying, as defined by the psychologist team at Brigham Young University, is an intentional
aggressive behavior involving an imbalance of power perpetrated repeatedly over time.
B. There are three different types of bullying.
a) Physical Bullying
b) Verbal Bullying
c) Cyberbullying
a) Physical bullying is harassing, harming, or intimidating students using violent ways.
As argued by Sandra Graham, boys are more likely to engage in physical bullying
compared to girls. Also, physical bullying stops typically around middle school age
since this type of bullying is no longer socially acceptable.
b) Verbal bullying is uttering negative things about someone. Graham found that this
type of mental bullying is most common in high school and that girls are most likely
to engage in verbal bullying.
c) Cyberbullying is bullying through electronic means. The psychologist team at
Brigham Young University found that cyberbullying is the most prevalent form of
bullying among students. Also, they discovered that since technology is growing so
fast, cyberbullying is also growing at a alarming rate. It was also established that
cyberbullying is the most harmful form of bullying due to its association with suicide
rates.
- Transition: After discussing the different type of bullying, I will address the impacts of bullying in
regards to the emotional status and academic performance of a student. I will then discuss what
can be done to prevent bullying in schools.

students, and other stake holders should take every precaution to stop the act.
