TARP Report: JustKiddingFilms – A small YouTube channel company

(Matching solutions from another youtube channel called Wong Fu Productions)

Problems: Promoting brand recognition (Small exposure), Increase Revenues to do bigger projects, finding other ways or content ideas to produce.

Background of JustKiddingFilms (JKF)

· JustKiddingFilms is a small Asian American youtube company that makes many comedic skit videos representing many race and cultures, especially Asian Americans, Hispanics, and Whites by stereotypes or real relatable situations.

· They were founded on January 1, 2007, with two co-founders, Bart Kwan and Joe Jitsukawa.

· They are located in Los Angeles, CA and they started making videos while they were in college, in their apartment making characters and just to mess around.

· Around 2009-2010 the company started to grow by having their friends join and help them with skits and filming.

· Around 2011-2012 their videos are becoming more popular and started to trend because they were funny and some of it was relatable to some people. Videos like Stuff Asian Moms Say, Stuff Asian Dads Say, Series of: Movie vs Real Life, etc.

· Around this time they created 3 new channels:

· In 2011, they created a new youtube channel called JustKiddingParty where they film videos of them playing games and do challenges.

· In 2012, a new youtube channel called JustKiddingNews where they have satirical discussion on news articles.

· In 2012, another new youtube channel called JustKiddingGamer where they have people in their company film themselves play video games.

· Now, the company grew and is constantly growing with new team members.

· As of now they have 9 major team members and they have another full team of editors and business roles.

Problems & Solutions:

Promoting Brand Recognition

· As you can see they have 1 main channel that is the “face” of the company, but they have 3 sub-branches of channels. How are they still having small exposure?

· They are only creating content to a small demographic. But in this demographic, almost every young Asian-Americans teenagers knows who they are (at least here in California) because they are from California and are making videos in a high Asian-American populated area.

· They are getting overshadowed by other youtuber because many popular YouTubers today are making daily vlogs, Do It Yourself (DIY) videos, or either stupid or cool stunts that interrupts the public).

· And youtubers like JustKiddingFilms are being underseen. For what they are producing.

· They have been in this industry for a little over 10 years now and they have 1.6 million subscribers with an average of 250 K views a video. (On their main channel)

· While in a channel like JustKiddingNews, they post about 4-5 videos a day, seven times a week and they get about an average of 175 K views each video they posted.

· But with a sad comparison, a youtuber name Logan Paul, joined the youtube community in 2015 and has about 17 million subscribers with an average of 3 million views a video.

Increase Revenue to do Bigger Projects

· As of right now on JustKiddingFilms is making money for their company by:

· Ad Revenues/ Ad Sponsors: In most video on youtube, youtuber would put ad clips in their videos to get some revenues from their videos. This is like having commercials in the beginning, middle, or last of the video. Or a company will reach out to youtubers, in this case, JustKiddingFilms, to advertise their product in their video. For example, if JustKiddingFilms decided to make a short skit and febreze asked them to advertise their product, they would have a small cameo of the product being used.

· Merchandise: JustKiddingFilms used to make a lot of short skits videos and from those videos, they would make merchandise products like shirts, hats, buttons.

· Going to events and screenings, ie., being invited to speak at a university by selling tickets or being paid by a fee: Some universities would invite youtubers like JustKiddingFilms to talk about their success and what inspired them to do videos. When they do these events, the school will pay for a fee to have them here or the team will be selling tickets to students.

· Another way they can get more revenue to their company is by:

· Have private investor invests into their company. This can be helpful because now they would have another source of money coming into their business and they can use that money for bigger projects. The down side of this idea is that if there is a private investor investing into this company, it can change the layout of how they would want to run their company and this is something that many youtubers are not okay with. Creating their own channels gives them the freedom to produce anything they want that aligns with Youtube regulations.

· Creating a Patreon. Patreon is a membership platform that makes it easy for artists and creators to get paid. With this source of income, JKF can have 3 different ranks where their fans can pay per month to help contribute the company. They can hold a Gold ($30/ month), Silver ($10/ month), Bronze rank ($5/ month) and with each rank, they will get a reward for each price they paid for.

Creating New Content Ideas & Formats

· One option that can help restore JKF’s fans back would to continue making funny relatable skits for generations like ours to watch. That how they got started and they should continue to do so.

· Another option would to make short series episodes that they can make and post one episode per week so their subscribers have something to look forward to every week to watch. Having short series episodes can be really great for their channels because not many youtubers make short series on YouTube and if the whole public can access it for free there will be more views on their videos.

· Create a big film like a movie that the whole company will be involved in and pitch the idea to either Netflix, a Television Network, or YouTube Red. This can help bring more exposure to their youtube company because they are hitting big platforms and their names are out there that people will start researching who they are and where they started. The downside of this idea is the process of how long it takes for Netflix or a Television Network to get back to them about them being interested or declining the idea.

WHAT WE NEED TO FOCUS ON FOR OUR PROJECT.

The TARP report will include the following items in the following order:

· Cover Page - The project report starts with an APA style cover page Comment by Ekin Lam: This is not part of the 12 pages we need to write.

· Table of Contents - The table of contents lists every part of the report—all primary, secondary and tertiary headings—along with page numbers. Headings should be informative or talking headings, increase skim value, and should correspond to the headings in the body of the report.

· List of Figures - List of any figures you have used with page numbers

· Executive Summary - An executive summary gives an overview of the main findings of the report along with conclusions and recommendations. It should not be longer than one page. It should be divided into three sections: Purpose, Main Findings, Recommendation and Implementation.

· Project Scope - The scope definition states exactly what the client and consultant agreed upon at the start of the engagement. For example, your client may place a monetary cap on the corporate outreach program or may insist that you develop a program that reflects the firm’s core values. In other words, the scope identifies what is and is not included within the project boundaries.

· Project Objectives - The objectives state why the project was conducted. What is the purpose of this study and what does it intend to achieve? Do not make specific recommendations in this section. Instead, you want to present your criteria for assessing a viable program that fits the firm’s business objectives.

· Methodology - The methodology identifies what research methods you used to collect pertinent information and data and why you chose those methods. Did you use library research methods, interviews, or surveys, for example?

· Findings - The findings present an analysis of the information gathered from primary and secondary sources and indicate what the consultant or project team identified as problems and/or opportunities for improvement. Divide the findings into sections and subsections in which you evaluate the significance for your client of the collective wisdom and best practices concerning corporate outreach. Analyze at least three viable alternatives or outreach options you explored. All sources should be cited in text using APA style. If you are doing corporate outreach answer the following questions: What is corporate outreach? Why do firms adopt corporate outreach programs? Why should your firm adopt a corporate outreach program? What types of corporate community partnerships would best achieve your company’s objectives?

· Recommendations - The recommendations describe which partnership you recommend the company adopt. It should be comprehensible to the reader who has not read the rest of your report.

· Business Impact - The business impact describes the value to your client’s organization if your recommendation is implemented. This usually includes benefits to be derived from the recommended solution and costs associated with implementation.

· Implementation Considerations - The implementation considerations describe what the requirements and barriers to implementation are and what dependencies upon other projects may be evident. For example, how many employees will be recruited? Might some employees resist participation? Will this project interfere with or enhance other company projects, such as a new branding campaign?

· Next Steps - The next steps list things like the recommended priorities, sequences, and personnel requirements for implementation. This usually includes a proposed schedule that shows things like timeframes for specific actions and activities, such as organizational meetings with nonprofits and responsible employees, event dates, etc.. Gantt charts are useful graphics in this section. The TARP/Consultant’s Report is action oriented. Impact, Implementation, Next Steps are, in effect, the equivalent of a call to action in all persuasive messages. If the company adopts your recommendation, how will it affect the bottom line? What material, financial, and human resources must the company allocate to your proposed outreach program in order to make it work both for the company and for the aid recipients? What actual steps or actions should the company take in order to marshal the material, financial, and human resources needed to get this project off the ground? When should each action be taken?

· Conclusion - The conclusion brings the entire report together by briefly stating what has been achieved and what the future outlook is for the success of the program.

· References - (APA Style) The references page(s) provide a list of all sources cited in the body of the report. 13 sources is the minimum. At least one book reference and two peer-reviewed articles (journals). Comment by Ekin Lam: This is not part of the 12 pages we need to write.
