BUAD-116 Written Report

Company SWOT Report Guidelines Students will work on teams of 4 to create a SWOT analysis for the company they have chosen from those available on the SWOT assignment. See Moodle for a list of companies from which you can choose. ONLY ONE STUDENT from the team should pick the company. If your choice is taken, then pick another one. This is a detailed guideline for what is required. IMPORTANT: 1. You must use your own words. Anything copied from the internet (or any other source) is

plagiarism and you will (at the very least) receive a zero on this report AND will meet with the dean for additional penalties. Re-phrase into your own words. All reports will be submitted to turnitin.com (by the professor) and the similarity (plagiarism) rating from Turn It In will be a factor in your grade.

2. You cannot use an existing SWOT report as a citation source. This is an exercise to show that you can create a SWOT on your own.

3. Any point made without a citation attached to it will be ignored and treated as if it were not there.

The Report Format

• Create a cover sheet with the name of the project, the date of submission, the name of the course, the name of the professor it is prepared for, and the names of the students (as you are registered here at the school).

• On the next page, explain what a SWOT is. What is it used for? What does it do for a company?

• Create the classic SWOT table (similar to what is shown here). Be sure each quadrant is clearly marked.

• In each of the quadrants, list 3 bullets that relate to that particular quadrant. These bullets should be very brief—only a few words in length (do not use sentences).

• Following the table, write a paragraph for each of the quadrants. In these paragraphs, you need to expand on the bullet points made in each of the quadrants. These explanations require citations to prove where you got the information. For example, the quadrant bullets may look like this: The supporting paragraph may look like this:

STRENGTHS Orizon Insurance has a large network of over 620 offices throughout North America (Orizon Insurance, 2019). This gives the company a wide reach into the marketplace. The brand name is well known due to its long-term print, television, and social media marketing (Jones & Caron, 2019, p. 22). Over the years, Orizon has developed a respected image due to featuring many famous spokespeople and companies as its clients (Jones & Caron, 2019, p. 23). NOTE: Each of the bullets is explained and referenced in the support paragraph. It explains what is meant by the bullet AND tells the reader why you feel this is proof of your point. Notice that the citations are INSIDE the period, clearly showing which sentence the citation is referencing. Every point you make needs to be cited. Citations outside a sentence WILL BE IGNORED, as they have no purpose.

• Write a separate paragraph for each of the SWOT quadrants. Paragraphs can be no longer than 6 sentences. If so, they will NOT be graded. If a section requires more sentences, then use another paragraph.

• You cannot use one source for more than two (2) points in the SWOT.

• On the last page, provide a list of the sources (references or bibliography) referred to in the body of the document. An example of the reference page for the sample paragraph is shown on the next page. Remember, the list of references must be on its own page, and every citation in the document must point the reader to one of these references. If a reference is listed but does not appear in a citation—it cannot be part of the references, because you have not shown where it was used in the document.

STRENGTHS 1. Large network 2. Well known brand 3. Famous clients

Late projects will be subject to a 10% penalty for each day, up to 3 days. After that, no submissions will be accepted. File names must be last name, dash, first initial, dash SWOT report. This means if I were submitting it, the file would be orwick-m-SWOT report.PDF. If you do not have a last name, then use the word "dot" as a last name.
