Question 1:

Self appraisal is a process of where an employee reviews the performance by themselves. They at first learn about themselves than evaluate their strength and weaknesses and find out their significance or their worth. Self appraisal contributes to a performance review by letting employee know their own level of performance and allowing them to get closure to their responsibilities and development of their career.

Question 2:

Peer appraisal is the process which is developed to observe and improve the job performance. During the process the colleagues who are in the same team evaluate the work of colleague and gather the opinions and ideas towards his/her performance.

a. The benefit of peer appraisal is it helps in increasing the accuracy with the help of feedback.

b. Wide range of opinion.

Question 3:

The four components of manager’s role and responsibilities that are measured by KPI are:

Customer Satisfaction

Internal Process Quality

Financial Performance Index

Employee satisfaction

The KPI can be measured by:

Establishing goals and objectives

Establishing critical success factors

Consistent Measurement and Assessment

Question 4:

Three personality type tests that are common in Australian workplaces are:

1. The Hogan Personality Inventory

The Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI) explains normal, or colorful-side attitude-qualities that classify how we relate to everyone else when we are at our finest. Whether your goal is to identify the right hire or to build stronger leaders, you get highly valued idea of how people work, how they lead, and how productive they will be.

2. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

It is a set of questionnaire which help an individual to identify their personality type and preference. It helps to understand how a person make decision.

3. The Caliper Profile

The Caliper Profile is an objective assessment which involves evaluating the personality traits and individual motivations of a person to predict behavior patterns and potential on-the-job.

Question 5:

Advantages of personality test are:

1. Personality assessments typically measure behavioral traits which might be appropriate for some professions.

2. In a limited amount of time during an interview, applicant talents and strengths will often be missed on a resume or face-to - face, but a personality test gives a greater glimpse into how they could blend into a climate of work environment.

3. Taking personality tests before an interview tends to limit the pool of candidates as it provides an insight into the personalities of all applicants and enables the interviewer identify which candidates should be called to an appointment.

Disadvantages of personality test are:

1. It can take time and effort and commitment to complete certain personality tests, which can discourage a prospective candidate from moving forward into the selection process.

2. Workforce diversity might become lacking if all workers had the same characteristics.

3. Personality testing can be pricey, from paying for the assessments to hiring anyone to score the assessments. This has to be measured against the possibility of giving the position to the right candidate.

Question 6:

Self awareness is required in leadership because self awareness enables leaders to acknowledge the weaknesses in their professional skills and focus on areas where they are most productive, as well as areas where more improvement is required. Also, this will help leaders to identify their strength and weakness and give chance to work on them, help the managers to think of new ideas with an open mind, understanding the boundaries and maintain self discipline.

Question 7:

The benefit of conducting behavioral assessment is:

1. It offers better understanding on why people behave in a particular way and try to understand the social and environmental factor that bring changes to behavior pattern of a person.

2. Behavior assessment can provide the solution to the behavioral difficulties and suggest what will be the best.

Question 8:

Personal development is a method or a strategy that helps us to handle the learning and development of our own. It uses the idea of reflection to encourage one to keep records of the actions he has taken toward learning knowledge and skills. It helps one to track improvements in life needed and strengthen the shortcomings necessary. The plan offers a measure for an individual to see their growth, and to assess the potential skills to be developed.

Question 9:

As we are aware goal setting is one of the most important thing in any organization. The objective is actually a plan that we are going to take which will lead us towards our target. The goal we set up must be SMART which includes,

Specific: The goal must be specific and clear. It should be simple not vague. Everyone should understand what the goal is and should focus more on how to achieve it. The specific goal should have the queries like:

What is the objective?

Who is responsible to attain it?

What are the action that must be taken?

How to attain it?

Measurable: The goal should be measurable so that we can have an idea regarding the progress we have made. If we have not gone too far from where we started than we have to make some improvement in our goal. Also if the goal is not measureable than it would be difficult to attain it. For example:

Increasing revenue by 30% in 2 years. We can have a track on how much we are able to work on our goa and how much more required.

Attainable: The goal must not be too big which is impossible to obtain. It should be realistic. If the employees are saying that the goal is unrealistic or not reasonable than the goal is not properly discussed and set.

Relevant: The goal must be relevant. It should be result oriented. In this stage, we have to evaluate why the goal important for our organization? Is it fruitful? What are the benefit?

Time-based: The goal must have a deadline. We cannot have goal for an infinite number of years. The discussion must be on till when can we obtain the objectives. Is the goal we have set is for long term or short term? Can we obtain it within 5 year or can we obtain it within 1 or 2 year?

Question 10:

Pareto principle 80%/20% is a principle where 80% of output is the effect that comes from 20% of the causes. Time management is about increasing the efficiency by fixing the personal issue first so that a person can give effort to their work which would be faster and easier. Solving the personal problem will help an individual to increase their performance and manage their time.

We can manage time at work by:

1. Establishing a regular routine-and maintain it

Having a plan will help us to manage the time properly. We can make a simple routine by writing in a piece of paper what we are going to do throughout the day. If we write all the task it will help us to prioritize the important task and complete it and we wont be vague in what task needed to be done.

2. Prioritize the important task

For a time management we have to eliminate the least important task and should place the important task at the top of the list. First we have to separate urgent and important task, then we have to figure which is important but not urgent. Doing this, we can finish the the task.

3. Eradicate distraction

There are lot of things that can distract us from our work. These things might be television, Facebook, text message, phone calls, co-workers and many more. In order to be productive we should always try to minimize these distractions and focus on the important task. Justification:

As the system broke down on Tuesday afternoon at around 2:00 p.m. I have to revise the schedule so that everything can be finish on time. Because of the problem in electronic technology I swap the plan from Tuesday to Wednesday and tried to finish those which do not require any electronics. For example: On Tuesday I couldn’t conduct the research and gain feedback with employees instead I had the meeting with staff regarding sales of the company. I shift the feedback session for Wednesday.

To <<Gavin>>,

Hello Gavin,

I will like to notify you about the changes I made in our weekly scheduled task. As you are aware we had a technology issues on Tuesday afternoon due to which we had no access to electronic equipment. I had to re-schedule the activities. So, I gave priority to those activities which doesn’t require computers and internet. Therefore, I plan company sales meeting on Tuesday which was going to happen on Wednesday. And from 4-5 pm I did a motivational program with sales and marketing department. On Wednesday morning I had a meeting with Human resource and solved the problem. After that the day went as planned. All the electronic activities that were supposed to finish on Tuesday were done on Wednesday. I prioritize the task and complete everything on time.

Should you have any question don’t hesitate to write to me.

Have a nice day!

Kind regards

PART B

RESEARCH AND REPORT ON STRESS

In CBSA we have record high rate of incidents which are related to mental trauma. The research we conducted has showed that the employees who work here are finding hard to maintain their personal life and work life. It is very sad to say that people are not being able to manage their time in home and in job. For our organization to function properly, it is very important for us to have a productive employee. To have the productive employees we need to focus on their mental and physical health. So, we really want to solve the issues which will impact our workers and our function in the organization. This is the research I have done and identified the requirement of healthy life:

The sign and impact of stress:

Some people might get stressed in a little things and don’t know how to get rid of it. They might show different behavior while they are in tensed and it is really important o figure out if someone is having a stress. The stress will impact their living and might have chronic affect. For us, as an employee we can identify the stress of the employees by asking them if anything is wrong. We can also look at their facial expressions, if they looked sad, not interested, no energy, remains quiet all the time, don’t interact as they used to then we can figure out there is something that is affecting them. When we identify the thing we should help them to recover this. The impact of stress might be very serious if we don’t try to solve it sooner. The people might face difficulties in remembering things as their mind is already occupied, they might not be able to concentrate in anything and don’t give attention to it. Many times due to stress the person might look worried and agitate. Their mind might be filled with negative things and they might judge everything negatively. (Health direct)

Strategies that staff can use at home to reduce their stress:

Staff should try to manage their level of stress as possible. Thinking and brooding over a thing is never a good idea. To manage stress an employee can talk to their friends inside or outside of the office, they can share what kind of feeling they are having. If they don’t want to discuss with family or friend than it is better to do take some counselling, it will definitely help them. Also employees need to take a break from their work with this they might reduce the work related stress. They can spend time by themselves or with loved ones in home and also they can go on a vacation where they can feel relief and their mind can be fresh. Also, it would be helpful if they engage themselves in other things that excites them and keep themselves busy. This would let them stay far away from the thought as they would be busy in some other things.

Also, doing some exercise and yoga will keep them calm and far away from stress. It is very important to eat a healthy nutrients diet and have a good sleep.

The benefits of health and well being programs.

The health and benefit program will help employee not only to reduce stress but provide them an idea of how to live a healthy life. This kind of program will help employees to improve their morale, teach them to have a social interaction and work in a group, it will help them to work and to increase productivity as a result they will have a higher job satisfaction. Let us discuss further more:

Reduced health cost

The staff who adopt healthy life style would avoid poor life style decision. The programs would help them to get knowledge of the lifestyles they are living, they would be more focused towards exercise, nutrition, anti-smoking lifestyles. This would benefit the organization as employee would not fall sick over chronic disease.

It will help the mental wellbeing

This program would help employees to reduce various problems which are related to: work overload, harassment and bullying, workplace culture, conflict with staffs and many more. When these problems are solved this will help to reduce the rate of absenteeism.

It will reduce the staff turnover rate

When staff are focused towards healthy living and enjoys working in the organization than they are less likely to leave the organization. Advertising for the vacant post, recruiting, training the new employees will cost lot of time, money to all the organization. Staff turnover would bring all this expenses while happier staff would save the turnover cost.

Increased Productivity

Health and well being program will increase the productivity increase the well being of people, improve the diet, have a healthy mind with less stress. (Employment law practical handbook)

Four health and well being programs

As we now know why health and well being of employees is important in an organization, now we can discuss the type of different programs that might help:

Quit smoking program

As we know the employees who smoke have a higher chance of getting ill. They will have health related issues sooner or later. If the organization develop this kind of programs which will help employees to encourage to quit smoking and adopt healthy life. Employers can arrange a pharmacological assistance who can guide the staff and reduce the rate.

Yoga classes

Offering free yoga classes in an organization will help employees to get rid of their stress. Yoga and meditation will help people to stay calm, get rid of negative thought and have positivity with in them. Yoga will improve the concentrating power and make the employees to be focused in their destination.

Employee assistance programs

These type of program will help employee to reduce depression, anxiety and stress from them and will provide the will power. These are the assistance which are provided outside of the workplace and support employees in maintaining confidence, boosting satisfaction.

Fitness challenges

Employees can have wellness and fitness challenges programs which will encourage them to stay healthy and fit. The challenges might be required to increase wellness habits for example drinking plenty of water, quitting smoke, doing exercise, having meditation where staff motivate each other to reach certain estimated goals. (Holistic Service Group)

Part A: Plan Personal Work Goals Report

1. Complete Business Solutions Australia (CBSA) is a multiple award earning, accredited Sydney-based company that provides small, medium and enterprise-sized companies with business planning advisory services throughout Australia. It is located in 300 Fictional Way, Sydney, NSW 2000 and the website name is www.cbsa.com.au.

The company strategic plan for year 2020 includes focusing on acquiring five new clients every month, growing the CBSA’s business by 25%, Help to implement 3 new services and to grow the workforce in the company. Also, we have to focus on maintaining 90% customer retention rate.

My role as a Sales and Marketing manager would be related to marketing activities and service development. I should investigate the market, implement sales strategies and attract more clients. Also I would have to focus on managing customer interaction and to provide ideas about the new markets which will help this company to develop. The key responsibilities of my job includes:

Five work objectives I have identified for this position are:

a. Increasing the customer target by gaining 3 customers each month. I will try my best to obtain higher rate of customer each day as it will increase the company sales. For this I will come up with various sales strategies and pricing. This would be included in 12-month goal as it would identify the level of service our company has provided and how much we are successful to fulfill our client expectation.

c. Implementing three new services each year would help to meet the customer needs and give various option to them. It will help them to stick with the company as company Is focusing in the client desire and coming up with suitable product or service. It is relevant to CBSA as this will increase the service varieties and increase the sales rate. It would be 12-month plan as coming up with more than 3 products each year might be confusing. Also, we have to give time for a client to use the product, develop ideas and to provide feedback.

d. Growing business financially is very important to survive in the market. I will try to increase the growth of CBSA by more than 25%. It is relevant as it will attract more investors and analyst. Also it would be suitable as a 12 month goals as it will help CBSA to survive in a long-term with sufficient capital.

e. Growth of workforce is required as the CBSA will grow and have new services. It is relevant as it would help in identify the trend and help in delivery of the services to the client. It would be suitable for 12-month goal as it would help in increase productivity and service offerings.
