held, date and time and the cost of the event. You should also provide a brief description of the
expected value and benefit to yourself (in the role of Manager), as well as for the team of staff
that you are responsible for.
3. Write a Networking report

Assessment Task 3 Instructions
Complete the following activities:
1. Prepare for a speed-networking event.
Choose a company that you would be interested in working for, as well as a job role within that
company. The role you choose should be at a managerial level, such as a Marketing Manager
or Human Resources Manager. You will need to be able to access enough information to be
able to deliver a 2-minute pitch about the job role and company’s products and services.
Assume that you have decided to attend a speed-networking event to network with other
professionals to build relationships and to promote the business (without direct selling). The
format for the speed-networking event is that each person has 2 minutes to present key
information, so decide on what is the most effective information to present.
Your presentation/pitch should include:
Your name (use your own name)
Job title and brief description of role
Company name and location
Description of products/services offered by the company
Who are your clients/customers?
What makes your company stand out from its competitors?
Reasons for attending the networking event?
2. Present at the speed-networking event
As you will be participating in a speed-networking event with other students also completing this
assessment, you will complete your speed networking presentation more than once. Your
assessor will observe you at least once during the speed-networking event.
After your 2-minute pitch, the other student will also have up to 2 minutes to ask you questions.
During the presentation, demonstrate effective communication skills including:
Speaking clearly and concisely
Using non-verbal communication to assist with understanding
Asking questions to identify required information
Responding to questions as required
Using active listening techniques to confirm understanding
Demonstration of these skills will ensure that you build the trust and confidence of those you are
presenting to.

Assessment Task 4 Instructions
Carefully read the following:
David recently attended a speed-networking event to promote his business coaching services and to build
relationships with potential clients. David has been running his business coaching services business for
approximately 2 years and has built a good client base. However, after 2 years, David felt it was time to do
some networking to build awareness of his services, as well as to find out more about services offered by
other businesses and their needs. Hence his attendance at the speed networking event.
David sees the services he offers as high quality, effective services. In the past, he has been approached by
potential clients and asked to offer discounts. However, David feels that this undermines the quality of the
service and thus although he may potentially lose a client, he does not offer discounts. David has great
confidence that any client using his services will grow their business and always likes to advise potential
clients of this.
Following the speed networking event, David receives the following email:
Hi David
It was great to meet you at the speed-networking event last week. I was really impressed with the services
that your company offers and would like to book in for a face-to-face, one off business coaching session. I
have checked the price on your web site of the one-off session and saw that it is $1,500 plus GST.
At the moment, my cash flow is a bit low so I am wondering if you would be able to offer me a discounted
service, especially as we have not met each other. I am hoping that you can provide the service at 50% of
the price i.e. $750 plus GST. I might have a range of other people I can recommend to you too.
Please let me know as soon as possible.
Kind Regards
Jack Sharp
Complete the following activities:
1. Write and send an email in the role of David.
Based on the scenario information, prepare an email to Jack with an appropriate response.
The text of the email should be in grammatically correct English, written in an appropriate (polite,
business-like) style.
Your reply must be polite and courteous and seek to build the relationship with Jack, despite the
fact that you do not offer discounts.

Now read the following:
In the end, Jack decided to sign up to David’s business coaching services. Any client who signs up to
David’s services signs an agreement for services on the following basis:
While business coaching services are designed to empower clients and improve business
outcomes, there can be no guarantee about anticipated outcomes on the client’s behalf.
Refunds will not be given for services already provided.
Jack signed the agreement before beginning the business coaching services
Note also that while David does not provide refunds, he will generally offer a client $50 discount off the next
service they take up if the clients express dissatisfaction in any way.
It is now six months later, and David receives the following email from Jack.
Hi David
I hope you are well.
I’m just writing to let you know that despite the business coaching I received from you, plus the business
plan you developed for me, I haven’t had any results in the form of increased sales or customers.
I am writing to request my money back in full.
Thanks, Jack
2. Write and send an email in the role of David.
Based on your review of the scenario information, prepare a further email to Jack with an
appropriate response.
Your reply must be polite and courteous, show empathy and seek to resolve the situation
through an appropriate solution.
This will also demonstrate your ability to build trust with clients.

Assessment Task 5 Instructions
Carefully read the following:
A small business coaching services company recently established a web site in order to grow its business.
Up to this point all business referrals were through word of mouth. However, due to the demand for
services, the owner of the business has employed another business coach and is seeking to promote
services through establishing a web site.
The owner has also recently published a book about key elements of managing a small business. The book
is advertised on the web site but so far sales data indicates that only 5 copies have been sold in 3 months
which based on the annual target is a short fall of 20 books No other promotion of the book is occurring.
After the implementation of the new web site, the situation for the company six months later is as follows:
Sales have increased by 10% in the first six months of the web site being launched. However, the
overall desired increase for the year is 20%.
The web site has an email contact, and the company is receiving at least 30 emails a week with a
range of questions about the services. As there are only two staff members, answering all the
emails, there are often delays in answering enquiries, by which time some customers have already
signed up to another business.
While sales are increasing, a short customer survey indicates that consumers are unable to
differentiate the company from other companies offering similar services.
Complete the following activities:
1. Write a promotional activities improvement report.
Based on the feedback in the scenario information, develop a short report on improvements to
promotional activities for the company.
Your report should be approximately 200 to 300 words, written in clear and concise English, and
include a summary of the promotional outcomes achieved as par the scenario information, as
well as your recommendations for improvements.
2. Send an email to your assessor.
The text of the email should be in grammatically correct English, written in an appropriate (polite,
business-like) style.
It should introduce and summarise the contents of the attachment, and seek their feedback and
approval to move forward with the project.
Attach your promotional activities improvement report to the email.
