How to Use this Learner’s Guide
This learner’s guide has been designed to aid in your competency of unit BSBMGT502 Manage People Performance. In order to ensure that the Principles of Assessment are met, students must be fully informed about the assessment requirements, when and how training and assessment will be provided, as such, this guide provides information on how the unit will be delivered.
Throughout your study with PCBT, we encourage students to be responsible for their own learning. As such you will need to organize time outside of your given timetable for study and completing your assessments. For students who may be returning to study after a long break, there are a few websites which provide good study tips for learners such as www.aussieeducator.org.au/resources/studyskills.html , http://www.studytips.org/ and http://www.studentbox.com.au/
This student subject guide provides you with the outline of the unit competencies that you will be expected to achieve throughout the unit. Remember that every unit has a combination of theory and practical work and assessment, within hospitality this may include functions and Industry Placement. As a nationally accredited unit, you can find more information about the unit outcomes at www.training.gov.au and simply search under the unit code or title. A breakdown of the key components of this unit are contained in the section called Assessment Criteria. As a nationally Registered Training Organisation (RTO Id 52014), we are required to collect evidence and apply the principles of assessment against this criteria. For more information about Rules of Evidence of Principles of Assessment, see the PCBT website or ask your assessor for a handout about this.
Please read through all directions carefully as your work through the subject guide, learner guide and your assessment to ensure all work is completed correctly.
It is important to note that the term they has been used throughout the text in order to preserve gender equity.
Should you have any queries as your work through the guides, your first step should be to refer again to the instructions and only then refer to your assessor for clarification.
Please note that a range of additional or supplemental learning resources are referenced in this guide, these are not required resources but are provided as additional support for students who struggle with the content or wish to extend their learning.
Enjoy your learning!
Frequently Asked Questions
How am I assessed?
You have several ways in which you are formally and informally assessed throughout this unit. Informal assessment occurs through the activity questions in your learning resource, and through verbal questioning by your trainer/mentor. The activities are designed to guide you to important terms or key ideas within the readings and around the unit. It is important that you work through the activities and give each of them consideration, however, they will not be formally marked by your assessor/trainer. All your assessments that will be due as part of this unit are listed in the Assessment Overview, along with your due dates.
As part of this unit, you will sign a Record of Attainment, stating that you understand how and when you will assessed in the unit. PCBT has strong policies in regards to how we deal with plagiarism, extensions etc. If you would like more information on these, please see the student handbook for further information.
What if I miss a class?
If you are unable to attend a class, you must notify the trainer or school prior to class. You will need to provide a medical certificate and you will need to speak to your trainer about what content was covered in class. Where a student is unable to provide a medical certificate, charges will apply for make up classes.
What if I miss a due date?
If you believe that you will be unable to meet an assignment deadline, it is important that you talk to your trainer or the school before the assignment is due. Assignments which are submitted late and where approval was not sought prior will be considered Not Satisfactory and will fall under a resubmit.
What if I get Not Satisfactory twice?
If you submit assignments to be marked and you receive NYS more than twice, you may be asked to resubmit the assignment entirely and fees will apply. For more information see you student handbook.
How much study time should I plan for this unit?
Study time can vary significantly from student to student for a range of reasons. When you are planning study (particularly for the first time), you should aim to plan for one hour of study for every 3 hours spent in class. Make sure you plan for when assignments are due, as usually during this time you may need more time.
