Introduction
Common and scientific names
1. Common names: “Mugunghwa,” the rose of Sharon,
2. Scientific Name: Hibiscus syriacus (Anjum, 2016).
Where it is observed
· The flower’s native region East Asia, China to India.
· It is regarded as the national flower of South Korea.
· This flower is mostly found wild in the mountains slopes
Why I chose this organism?
· I choose Hibiscus plant since its represents the beauty of the natives, plays the decoration role at home, and gardens.
· Its medicinal aspects and uses in cancer therapies, infections, fever, stomach upset, high blood pressure, and weight loss.
· I am currently stationed in South Korea.
· It represents the beauty aspects of the environment.

Body
Physical Description
· It is hardy and deciduous
· Bloom color: Purple, White, Pink, Blue, and Lavender.
· Size: It grows to 3 m (9ft) by 2 m (6ft) at a medium rate ("Hibiscus syriacus rose of Sharon, althaea, shrub Althea, hardy hibiscus PFAF plant database," n.d.) .
· At a high rate, it grows up to 8-12 ft. tall and 6-10 spread.
· In satisfactory growing condition, the plant can self-seed aggressively
· Flowers are short-lived and grows numerous buds.
· Has 5-petaled flowers
· Most of the contemporary cultivars are virtually fruitless.
· The leaves are yellow-green, alternate, and ovate.
· The branches are grey
Life Cycle and Reproduction
Life Cycle
· It grows up to 24 inches annually until it meets its natural or 8 to 12 feet.
· It is perennial in the United States
· Optimal growing conditions help the plant grow faster to reach its maximum height by four to six years.
· It has a self-supporting or sufficient growth form
· It blooms during the summer to producer flowers
· Unlike other shrubs rose of Sharon blooms within 1 to 2 years (Christensen, 2019).
· Frequent pruning is advisable to keep it young, since it can grow up to 24 ft.
· It attains it maturity when the flowers begin to form.
· After flowering it seed capsules that split in the landscape to form the next generation (Blackstone, 2020).
Reproduction
· In later summer and fall, the flowers bloom in masses.
· The reproduction occur through pollination by insects of birds like hummingbirds (Brown, 2019).
· They eventually become the seed pods, but they may be sterile and produce no seed for propagation.
· The flowers develop into seed pods in October and they take six to fourteen weeks to mature and ripen (Larum, 2016).
· The seeds grow with five lobes, and each lobe contains at least three to five seeds.
· Once the seeds mature, they turn brown and dry up to split each lobe and seeds disperse (Larum, 2016).
· The seeds need a cold environment to germinate.
The Stem Anatomy and Physiology
Anatomy
· It has the epidermis made up of the polygonal axially elongated cells with straighten anticlinal walls.
· Devoid of stomata.
· The epidermal cells are divided transversally.
· The hypodermis is elongated.
· The cork is formed in a minimum of three rows organized dark brown tabular polygonal with tangentially elongated cells encompassed with thick walls (El Shazly, El Gayed, Kandil, Yassin, Tawab, & ElAlfy, 2018).
· The phelloderm is made of at least three rows of elongated and tangential in shape with thin walls parenchyma cells (El Shazly, El Gayed, Kandil, Yassin, Tawab, & ElAlfy, 2018).
· The phloem is made of sieve tubes, conducting cells, and fiber cap.
Physiology
· The stem functions to provide support to the flowers, and buds.
· It conducts waters and nutrients to the flower and seeds ( Smith, 2019).
Energy Ecology
· Hibiscus Syriacus thrive in full sun and its growth goes dormant during winter except for the hardy Hibiscus.
· Less than full sunlight results to fewer flowers.
· It is a primary producer through photosynthesis.
· It assumes high mechanisms of adaptation in the structural and traits of the photosynthetic apparatus (PA).
· Its Chloroplast photosynthetic pigments makes the basics for photosynthesis.
· Their composition and the quantitative correlation establishes rate of photosynthesis and resistance level to unfavorable conditions (Akinshina, Azizov, Shtonda, Khalmurzayeva, & Rakhmatullina, 2018).
· It stores energy during unfavorable conditions by shedding buds.
Habitat
Abiotic factors
· It thrives best in zones 9-10, in acidic, moist, and well-drained soil.
· Prefers direct sunlight and moderate temperature for efficient thriving.
· It grows well during summer and dormant during winter.
Biotic Factors
· They are prone to leaf spots, rusts and cankers.
· Highly affected and invaded by aphids, whiteflies, and Japanese beetles.
· These insects can severely damage the foliage.
Conclusion
· The flower’s native region East Asia, China to India.
· I chose it due to its medicinal aspects and uses in cancer therapies, infections, fever, stomach upset, high blood pressure, and weight loss.
· Flower are short-lived, and grows numerous buds.
· It grows up to 24 inches annually until it meets its natural or 8 to 12 feet, which can go up to six years.
· Its reproduction occurs through pollination by birds and insects.
· It taps enough through photosynthesis and stores by shedding off the buds during unfavorable conditions.
