However it has to be something related to the hospitality industry in some way. There is a sample list of possible topic questions from previous students which you may use if you wish but it is better if you can create your own topic question. Note: A topic question must be a question that could be answered either Yes or No. This enables you to write a balanced argumentative paper. Your lecturer MUST approve your topic question before you start researching or writing your paper!

What you need to do. 1. Decide what you essay topic question is going to be. When you have decided

this, email to your teacher for approval. Then write a research based essay on that topic using all of the skills you have learned so far regarding structure, citation, critical analysis and layout.

2. WORD count = minimum 1000 – maximum 1500.

3. All of the work submitted must be your own. Plagiarism or copying will be

dealt with as a very serious issue. Submission will be by ‘Turnitin’, a computer system that looks for plagiarism. If your paper has a score of 30% or more it will receive a zero grade.

4. Structure the paper with:  cover sheet with the school logo (copy and paste Page 3 from the Cesar

Ritz Style Guide, which is in e-learning and add the logo)

 Table of Contents (Word can do this automatically if you make your headings ‘Heading 1’ on the ‘Home’ tab, then ‘References’ and ‘Table of Contents’)

 Introduction (to explain the purpose of this paper.

 Detail (for both sides of the argument) – use counterargument in your main paragraphs

 Conclusion (to summarise what you have found and your own conclusion)  You may add any appendices that you wish

When to do what Submit your topic question to your teacher by week 7 lesson 13. Save your Word document as: “BW Paper 4 and YOUR name” Submit your paper in Turnitin by Thursday Week 8 12:00.

Things to think about

 Is everything that you say based on evidence?

 Find a range of reliable sources and use the Harvard referencing system (collect the references as you go along)

 Carry out a critical analysis to find evidence for both sides of the argument for your topic question.

 Is your writing clear and easy to read?
