Reflective Essay

Reflection of my first course of collegiate English

I was new to collegiate writing when I started the course, but with the help of my dedicated and supportive professor, I excelled. My writing abilities were adequate, but they needed some polishing. Many of my talents from high school easily transferred, but others did not. I've always been good at gathering facts and setting the groundwork. Aside from that, I've always found writing to be simple after I've established that foundation. It was straightforward to complete the main principles. However, once I arrived at college, it became clear to me that I needed more information and that I lacked it. It needed to be improved, but it wasn't a difficult task. Subject verb agreement, prepositions, and punctuation were some of the easy errors I overlooked. I was so critical on myself, as though I could write a fantastic essay if it weren't for the minor errors I was making. I compose a total of three argumentative essays – a factual essay, proposal essay, and an evaluative annotated bibliography.

During the semester, I was able to achieve one of my objectives of the class, which was to write a highly detailed paper. One of the ways I was able to achieve that goal was through the three separate papers I produced this semester. The three papers included a factual essay, an evaluative annotated bibliography, and a proposal essay. When I first started writing those papers, I had to think about the recourse I was using. This necessitated brainstorming ideas for what language and material to put in the articles. For example, I produced a factual essay about whether colleges should have plagiarism policies. The CRAPP Test was also a valuable tool in helping me structure my essay. I learned how to perform preliminary research, appropriately establish a thesis statement, and formulate an outline. This course was beneficial to me since it taught me to communicate well in both written and spoken form. This experience has been so much more pleasurable than I had anticipated, and it's hard to realize that my incredible English 1301 course is coming to an end.
