Network Security Breakout Activity – Defense in Depth
The network security committee at Behemoth Industries has agreed that the current network as it is right now, is very vulnerable to all kinds of attacks. The most noted attacks, brought up in the meeting, are unauthorized users coming into the network from the Internet, customers coming into a lobby of the facility and gaining access to the network through exposed network ports. In addition, users getting a virus on their computer and spreading throughout the organization is of grave concern. There must be a way to monitor and notify the security staff when an attack occurs. The committee wants to see a proposal of a layered approach on how you will harden the system to help prevent these attacks from occurring.
Here are your tasks:
· Determine using the diagram below how you will alleviate the threats described above. What controls will you put into the network to take care of each of these threats.
Hint: You should be implementing controls at each of the locations where the arrows are indicating in the network diagram above.
· Prepare a PowerPoint presentation which will be presented to the rest of the group during the presentation hour. The presentation should include the controls you used, where are the controls were implemented in the network, and which threat did that specific control help prevent.
