Homework Wk 2
Class,
This week we have been tasked with identifying the three essential elements of convergence within the realm of public or private security. We are then tasked to formulate a hypothesis to the effectiveness and extent of convergence over the next decade.
The three essential elements to convergence can be identified as the use of technology, integration, and globalization. These three elements are what help to make security more whole bodied while making it easier for personnel to use. One of the common problems found with security is the hassle it creates for people who have to attempt to control many different security methods or practices, which then leads to personnel making security errors. One approach that can be identified by use of the Department of Defense is to utilize a member’s common access card for more security approaches than just computer credentials. Since all military members already maintain their common access card on them they are more likely to keep it secure rather than having to use their card and then multiple passwords for different programs. When security managers converge multiple security practices it allows for a better security program as well as an ease for end user, again making security stringer.
When it comes to the next decade I believe that convergence in the realm of security will become very common and we will see a much simpler method of security within our phones. Many applications security wise are already moving to the online platform of cellular phones, and we have even seen Apple release a credit card that is only accessible through their phone with no physical card. I see this practice that Apple has demonstrated becoming more frequent in the next decade. I believe that with the quickly evolving technology that soon most of our secure assets will be in our cellular devices and require no extra security accessories more than a single card. I also believe this technology will result in a single secure card with all of our required information on it, may it be banking information to personal information that will easily allow personnel to have all needed info with them.
