Here is the post to rely to below (support the paper or refute with respect)

A cultural assessment helps to identify belief’s, values and behaviors while considering life experiences and social and physical environments (Burkhardt & Nathaniel, 2020). In addition to the cultural assessment, the nurse should have incorporated cultural competency in her practice. Culturally competent care includes support that cares for people across different cultures and religious beliefs. Cultural competence also includes cultural awareness and sensitivity which plays an important role in care delivery. With these tools the nurse should have recognized the cultural beliefs and encouraged the mother to practice as desired. If the nurse were aware of the cultural practices of the patient, she could have incorporated those rituals such as singing and the use of eagle feathers or crystals into complementary therapies for the patient.  This would have made the mother feel more supported and would demonstrate family- centered care.

Upon meeting the patient and her family I would have done a spiritual assessment. This would have given me a better understanding of the patient’s spiritual needs. Following the assessment, I would ensure an environment that welcomes various spiritual and religious perspectives and expressions (Burkhardt & Nathaniel, 2020). I would also be available to address their needs and concerns. I would use the ethical principles of autonomy, paternalism, and advocacy to help guide my actions.

In conclusion, the nurse’s actions reflected her own beliefs and prejudices. Her actions were outside of the nursing standard of care and created a hostile environment for the mother. Before caring for anyone else she needs to do some self-assessing and educate herself on cultural and spiritual competencies and how they play an integral role in patient care (Influences of Religion and Spirituality in Medicine 2018)
