Balmain, Melissa. (March 12, 2012) “Bouncing Back.” Success Magazine.

Bouncing Back by Melissa Balmain gives details of facing adversity based on one Truong, a Vietnamese who lost his wife and family in sea and had to push on with life amidst such adversity. Overcoming adversity requires resilience and such resilience can only be obtained through bouncing back from every kind of adversity (Balmain, 2012). The article gives examples of people such as Truong, Loredo, Hovind, Peterson, Downing and Reivich who being afflicted by adversity they had to bounce back through adopting resilient mechanisms. All the people overcome adversity because they did not focus on the challenges brought by adversity but they focused on ways they can push ahead with finding solution to their problems rather than drowning in the adversity (Balmain, 2012). The article epitomizes positivity as the overall way of becoming resilient even in the midst of adversity.

The article will be important in my paper because it gives elaborate points on overcoming adversity through resilience. I will focus on the below major points discussed in the article to enrich my paper on adversity. First, for one to develop resilience after an adversity, they have to push themselves forward by capitalizing on the good things happening in their life, by listening to loving people and focusing on obligation. Secondly, resilient people usually take control of things they can manage in their lives when adversity strikes, and will utilize the article to elaborate this point in my paper. Third, when adversity strikes, one should focus on being in a team of people facing similar problems rather than living in isolation, “like I’m not alone in this” (Balmain, 2012). Fourth, I will use the article to identify how counting ones blessing rather than focusing on failures is the best way of developing resilience during an adversity as Loredo says, “There is a lot of good in your life and it definitely outweighs the bad” (Balmain, 2012). Again, using the article I will elaborate on how helping people in problems, accepting and adapting to the situation rather than pitying oneself can help people in adversity develop necessary resilience to overcome. Lastly, the article will help me in fronting the importance of developing resilience through forgiving and not necessarily forgetting as mechanism of developing necessary resilience to overcome adversity (Balmain, 2012). The article is rich in necessary information on overcoming adversity that is critical for my paper.
