Botany

There are many fields one can enter with a degree in Botany – and they are very varied! For this assignment, you are to research one of these fields. Some option are: Forensic Botany, Economic Botany, Wildlife Habitat/Food Plot Management, Biotechnology, Conservation Biology, Horticulture, Forestry or Agriculture. There are many more but, if you want to do something not on this list, get my permission first.

To prepare for this assignment, I recommend that you do the following:

Read these directions carefully. Review the grading criteria as this is the detailed evaluation that I will use to assess your performance. It will also help you understand what is expected of you as you prepare your assignment.

Presentation requirements:

Your presentation will be submitted as an audio-narrated PowerPoint. For instructions on how to create audio narration in PowerPoint, see the following link: Record a Slide Show With Narration. Audio narration is a requirement! There must be visual elements (e.g., photos, videos, graphs, figures). Your presentation must contain approximately 15-20 slides (excluding title page and references) and run approximately 10-15 minutes. Please note that less than 10% of your presentation should contain direct quotes. Proper use and pronunciation of scientific terminology are required. For help with pronunciation, see this link: Cambridge Dictionary Be sure to properly cite your work, both internal to the presentation as well as within the reference slide (this includes photos, graphs, figures, videos, etc.). All references listed on the reference slide should be cited internally within the presentation, and vice versa.

The required elements: I want you to use your imagination and previous instruction to create this presentation, so these are simply the required sections – but make sure you are clear, complete and concise (remember the slide count). Make sure your presentation contains:

Introduction A brief introduction to the topic in general Make sure to use proper scientific terminology to explain all concepts Work Related Discussion A summary of the discipline (e.g. what it is, why it is important) Also include: who does it, why, how, what they get paid Explain what sort of education you need to get a job like this and who employs people to do it. A Specific Case Example Include a summary of a specific case where this type of job has been used. Conclusion Section A brief summary of the topic in bulleted form

Reference Slide(s) and Internal Citations – MUST CONTAIN Internal citations - This is not just a separate section; rather, referencing should occur throughout the presentation via parenthetical citations anytime you paraphrase, make direct quotes, or use visual components from other sources. Please be sure to cite any language, images, videos, etc. in the presentation that should be cited. Reference Slide - Your presentation should also have a final reference slide listing 5-10 credible sources researched for your presentation.
