Summary of book #1

The most powerful message from the book is the sexual abuse which takes place as one of the main points in the story. It is saddening that the girl is from a poor background. The mother admits that they were living below the poverty line and she had to look for her a place where she can be taken care of. The most striking part of this passage is that the uncle who is entrusted with the life of the girl is taking advantage of the situation and sexually abuses her. The fact that she is abused and later hit by the boyfriend disturbs her a lot and she suffer great trauma. As much she tries to take it, she does not manage to put up with it. The emotional torture she is undergoing inwardly is limiting her from performing her daily activities. She cannot help but share her experience.

However, the author is not getting better so far. The reason is that she has kept this thing from the people who offended her like the boyfriend and the uncle. Thus, as much as she has shared her experience, the pain is still there for her. A few people respond to the situation try to help her work through her struggles, like her mother and sister. They organize mental treatment aid for the author which is helpful to her so far. She is gradually recovering and this is evident in her general well-being. I think that the author has chosen to share her story so that the pain can be released and she can feel liberated from the abuse. Sharing relieves her of the pain because it offers an opportunity to cry, become bitter and process her feelings. I would share this memoir with my friend who also experiences sexual abuse to help her feel not so alone and potentially help her with her trauma. The memoir will make her understand that other people also share similar pain.
