Re: Proposal for Improvement to the Book store on Largo Campus

Prospective Client – Do some analysis of the client (and what the potential challenges are)

The Potential client for my proposal is PGCC. A 2 years college Prince George’s Community College located at 301 Largo RD, Largo (PGCC) and opened its doors in 1958. Today PGCC offers more than 200 academic and career training programs. New buildings with cutting-edge technology dot the 150-acre PGCC campus in Largo. Five off-campus learning sites make classes more accessible to students. Nearly 40,000 students each year enroll at PGCC. Students are set on a clear path to achieving their goals and dreams. The PGCC faculty and

Image of inside of the book store staff provide encouragement and support. It has one book store located in Bladen Hall that provided support for all students.

Specifically, Prince George’ s Community College Bookstore:

1) The bookstore is located inside the main campus. It has an online componente, which can be accessed vía the collage website. It is a privately ran bookstore, and it offers textbooks and supplies that can be ordered online. The PGCC bookstore stocks a variety of books and other items that the students need. These includes:

a) Back-to-school must-haves such as books, calculators, and other stationeries.

b) Clothing materials and footwear.

c) Confectioneries (such as candies, chocolates, etc.) and snacks

2) The online section/department of the bookstore is easy to navigate. You can find the book or any other item you are looking for very quickly by searching for them in PGCC’s online bookstore

The client need (Analyze the needs for improvements – be concise and precise and prioritize them)

My goal in this presentation are as follows:

1) To conduct a study on the college bookstore at

2) Prince George’s Community College(PGCC);

3) To identify the problems and challenges facing the bookstore - the areas that needs improvement. And to breath new life to PGCC book store .

My qualifications as a client liaison (Highlight what qualifies to have unique insight to the problem and profer solutions).

Note: The fact that I am a student of PGCC who buy things at the book store qualifies me to conduct this study.

Like every college bookstore it faces existential challenges amid the shrinking textbook market and competition from companies such as Barnes & Noble Education and Amazon.

Project Feasibility (Analyse how feasible this project it)

Areas that Need Improvement:

From my personal experience as a PGCC’s students, and from the observations of other students, the bookstore need to make improvements to the following areas:

1) Long Wait: A frequent complaint with PGCC bookstore is the long wait time. This include waiting in line to check out, waiting for the bookstore employee to assist student on

2) floor, and so on. Investing in technology, such as a quick swipe self-service kiosks inside the bookstore might solve this problem.

3) Unlike others colleges ,they should provide students a discount even thought they don’t .

4) Cost of Materials: At PGCC bookstore, the cost of materials(such as textbooks, calculators, and so on) are often a source of tension between the students and the bookstore. I know a lot of PGCC’s students who balk at paying high prices for textbooks and other materials, and they generally point the finger of blame at the college bookstore. The bookstore can solve this problem by offering more choices (such as new, used, digital formats) to the students. The students can then choose the best products in terms of affordability

5) Customer Service:

The bookstore’s customer service need improvement. They should train their employees to provide quality services to the students and other customers

Conclusion (Provide a summary of challenges and solutions provided and why its beneficial)

They should do an effort by everybody in this college to bring down the prices and even though they brag about the economy.it is only the richer making lot of money and the poor are not making money like people that work at McDonald are not getting no raise and most of the student relied on the financial aid ,or their parents to buy books for them by the way I am attaching questions and answers from employees from the book store (see attached).

INTERVIEW EXCERPTS

Student most relevant experiences about the book store :

One of the student went to the book store on Tuesday July 27 at 12:15 pm to get some information’s about the assignment the teacher wanted her to do about the book store concerning : the prices of the books ,refund policy ,discount etc. When the student got there to ask questions no one ever answers the questions included the text book manager Miss Theresa telling the students that” they are actually really busy so wouldn’t have anybody seat down ,me interview them “. and the student asked when it is right time to come back .She responded that “the student can try sometime next week ,may be it will slow down little bit because they are all in process of preparing for fall semester so they would not have time to slow down “.and the store never seems to be busy that day ,.there were no customers and She were busy talking to her friend .We all know summer classes are short that particular students needed that information to turn in the assignment on time .

The same student went back again to the book store today Tuesday August 6,2019 for the same purpose. The student bought a flash drive first ,then staff asked about the manager ,one of the employer redirect me to a gentleman name Guadian who is in charge for text book too told the student that “I am not the right person to answer the student ‘questions “.The student was made and asked to speak to the book store manager ,that is when he called the students and started answering the questions .

· The first question was: why the prices of the books are expensive compare to online seller like Amazon or other colleges?

I interview my classmate Aime about her experience in the book store .she said she bought her text book there for $ 124 and found out that Amazon was selling the same book for $90 .She said she went back to the book store to get her money back and got the book online .

MR Guadian (employee at the book store) answered: He said they do price match with Amazon. that student needs to show proof that Amazon price then the will sell the book to that particular student same price as Amazon.

· The second Question was: Unlike others colleges, the book store should give discounts to students with PGCC ID

Selling your books and Book store will only pay, on average

Mr Guadian answered That:” he worked in university of Maryland and Montgomery college, he said the price of the books are the same .and they don’t offer discount too because if one semester end another semester will begin so no discount .

· The third Questions was: Why Students who have scholarship get their books late because their money kicks in late (two weeks after the class started )?

Mr Guadian answered that “They need to buy the book out of pocket in case their money come in late if they do not want to miss any assignments .

· My fourth questions was :How long the book store have been in prince George ‘community college ? Mr Guadian answered that :”I don’t know “

· Question 6 was :How much the book store buy the book back from a student ?

Mr Guadian answered that : “it will depend on the book condition ,the will buy fifty percent or less from the students and resell it at the normal price .

In-store Sellback Info

What condition does the book have to be in?

· Pages should not be torn, missing, marked up or highlighted excessively so that the print is obscured.

· Textbooks with water damage, stains, and/or pages sticking together are not considered in "good condition".

· You will be contacted by customer service if any item in your shipment does not meet condition requirements.

How are values decided? During major buyback periods we may offer as much as 50% of your book's original price. If an instructor has requested your textbook for next term, then the value increases. Books falling into this category may be worth more and get you a higher percentage of the original purchase price. Generally speaking, textbooks will be purchased until we reach the amount we think we can resell.

What if a textbook is no longer being used?

If we have reached our limit on a particular title for next term, or if your book has not been requested for next term and is a current edition, we may still purchase it based on various criteria including the national demand and the needs of other bookstores.

Selling your books and Book store will only pay, on average, less than half the new textbook price or nothing .

· Refunds are given for Course Materials returned before your campus-specific refund deadline*.

· Course Materials purchased after the campus-specific deadline must be returned within 7 business days of purchase for a full refund.

· Course Materials purchased during the last week of classes or final exams are not refundable

How PGCC’ bookstore make this program successful?

If this proposal is accepted I will work with the team to fix the problems because I have 2 more years .
