Title: Hi I am Kaitlyn Brock

Topic: Self-Introduction (DRAFT)

Specific Purpose: Introducing myself to my audience in this course.

Thesis: I am a new full-time mom who also works full time and goes to school full-time pursuing a degree in medical assisting.

Introduction: My name is Kaitlyn Brock, and I was born and raised in Kenosha, WI but I currently live in Fall River, WI. I currently work in a nursing home in Randolph, WI as a CNA. After having my little girl Amelia, I decided it was time to go back to school. I decided to purse my degree in medical assisting.

Capture Attention: For the past 2 years I was pursing my BSN RN degree at Herzing University. In the beginning of 2020, I found out I was pregnant, and this is when Covid 19 hit the US causing immediate shut down. This led to schools closing and a stay-at-home order put into effect immediately. Between having a rough pregnancy and being at home 24/7, I decided that nursing school was not a choice at that time, so I dropped out. After having a rough delivery, I decided to wait until the beginning of 2021 to go back to school except I did not choosing nursing for my degree. I decided to change my degree to an associates degree in medical assisting.

State the thesis: I am a new full-time mom who also works full time and goes to school full-time pursing a degree in medical assisting.

Establish Credibility: I have always enjoyed going to school. I love to keep myself busy as well. Ever since my junior year of high school I have always went to school and I worked. The nursing home I work at now is the same nursing home I have worked at since I was a senior in high school shortly after passing my state test to become a CNA. Now that I am a mom my days are never dull. I am always on my feet and enjoying every minute between watching my daughter grow, caring for those who need my help, and most of all learning new things in school to apply to my future to help those who will need it.

Preview the speech: I’ve always been the girl who enjoys keeping busy. I always knew I wanted to be a nurse. I love to help those in need and take a moment and learn new things especially if I can take those new skills and apply them to helping others. After getting pregnant, I sadly had to change degrees since nursing was not working with my schedule but being a mom is one of the best yet challenging things I have ever done. Watching someone grow up is the best thing ever. Since I have stated the medical assistant program, I have really grown to love it. I am excited to be almost done and to be able to help those who need it.

1.) Working full-time while being a mom and a full-time student is challenging.

A.) Making sure I get enough rest and working long hours is stressful, but I love the work that I do.

B.) Making time for my baby and school can sometimes be rough especially if there are sleepless nights before hand.

C.) Not having much help from others so it is mostly just me and my husband. Transition: Even though working full-time with lots of other life factors I love being able to get out of the house.

2.) Being a new mom is challenging yet rewarding.

A.) Being a new mom I face many challenges between myself and raising my baby. Before it was just me but now, I am looking over another human, my human. Not to mention the sleepless nights, and the different milestone my daughter has achieved and will achieve. Sometimes I wonder if I’m doing my very best and if there is something more I can do. I never had postpartum depression, but I did face some “blues” they called it.

Transition: Even though being a new mom can be challenging at times, watching my daughter grow has been the best experience I have ever done. 3.) Being a full-time student at home can be tough.

A.) I am a person who needs to get out often. It is hard for me to stay at home for long periods of time. That is why I love to work because it keeps me busy. Even though I am busy with schoolwork, I still need to get out. Before the pandemic hit, I used to do all my schoolwork assignments at a library either go to the one at my school or the one close to my hometown.

Transition: Even though school can be a challenge especially during a pandemic, I know the in the end it will be worth it.

Conclusion: I have always been busy ever since I can remember. In high school I never just went to class and came home. I made sure I had other things to do such as sports, working, or even volunteer work. Now I am happily married, a full-time mom, a full-time worker, and a full-time student and I would not change anything for the world.
