Book Review Outline

· Briefly introduce the reader to the paper. This paper will summarize and critique your chosen book while also connecting it to concepts related to adolescent development.

Summary

· Describe the main points and themes from the book clearly and thoroughly using multiple examples from the book to describe each point/theme.

· In your final paper, this section will be approximately one page.

Sources of Information

· This is where you will discuss where the author retrieved the information from in the book. The text may be based on research, practice, and/or opinion.

· Explain the sources of information along with a description of their credibility. Are they credible? Why or why not? The author’s sources of information should be clearly identified, discussed, and evaluated.

· You must use in-text citations in APA format.

· This section should be approximately half a page.

Connections

· Choose 3 concepts from class; these can be theories, empirical articles we have read, videos from experts, or any information from the OER. Describe each concept in detail to give the reader a basic understanding of that concept. Then, give an example from your book showing a connection to that concept.

· You must provide a thorough explanation of how they relate and why this connection is important for adolescent development.

· Use APA format for in-text citations.

· This section should be approximately one and a half pages.

Critique

· This is where you need to give your well-developed critique of the book. Support your critique using points made in the rest of the paper and examples from the book.

· Would you recommend this book to parents of adolescents?

· Is this book correct in its ideas about adolescent development?

· What are specific things you liked or did not like about it, and why?

· What are some specific strengths and weaknesses of this book?

References

You must include a full APA reference listing for your chosen book, AND for any additional sources you use. You will be using the OER and additional class readings, so you will need to include those in your reference section. These references should be in hanging indent format (like this paragraph).
