Integrative Manual Therapy

• IMT = Integrative Manual Therapy – A novel and unique approach for health care

– Used for 30 years with the neurologic population

– Used for 30 years with the pediatric population

– Developed by

Dr Sharon Weiselfish-Giammatteo, PhD, PT, IMP,C

NeuroFascial Process

• Treat you child at home

• Make a difference

• Include NeuroFascial Process as

adjunct therapy

dcr

Connecticut School of Integrative Manual Therapy

Solution for Health

What is NeuroFascial Process

• NeuroFascial Process is NFP

• NFP was developed by 1980

• It was investigated during more than 20 years with

hundreds of practitioners, thousands of clients,

hundreds of parents

• It has been used with all patient populations

• Thousands of children have benefited from NFP

dcr

Connecticut School of Integrative Manual Therapy

Solution for Health

NFP

• NFP can be practiced anywhere:

– in the home, at work, at school

• NFP is a Solution for Health

• ALL persons practicing NFP will benefit

• How much benefit?

– That is unique to the individual

• ALL children will benefit from NFP

dcr

Connecticut School of Integrative Manual Therapy

Solution for Health

NFP is described in

Body Wisdom

• The book : Body Wisdom

– Dr Sharon Giammatteo

– North Atlantic Books

– describes the history and development of NFP.

– There is more in the book than presented at this

workshop.

NFP: How to use it

• NFP is simple:

– Use two hands

– Place one hand on one location

– Place the second hand on another location

– Maintain the hand placements for at

least 20 minutes

NFP: How to use it Know your NFP Anatomy:

A. Forehead is for the

Frontal Lobe

B. Top of head is for the

Parietal Lobe

C. Side of head is for the

Temporal Lobe

D. Back of head is for the

Occipital Lobe

E. The Bridge of the Nose is

for the Limbic System

• Intelligence, attention, concentration, judgment, perception

B. Top of head is for the Parietal Lobe:

• Motor function; sensory function, speech

C. Side of head is for the Temporal Lobe:

• Learning, hearing, listening, seizure disorder

D. Back of head is for the Occipital Lobe:

• Vision, visual motor, visual spatial

E. Bridge of nose is for the Limbic System:

• Rage response, behavior, autism

• What are Process Centers?

– They are anatomic landmarks

– Every person has the same Process Centers

– They each have meanings

– They can affect behaviors, health, function!

– Learn how to use Process Centers with NFP!

Remember the Process Centers • Some Process Centers to use

with your child

– Heart

– Forehead

– Top of Head

– Back of Right Lung

– Kidneys

– Liver

– Bridge of Nose

– Spleen

– Pelvic Region

– There are more Process Centers…………

dcr

Connecticut School of Integrative Manual Therapy

How to use the Process Centers • Place one hand on the Process Center

• Place the second hand on:

– Forehead

• for ADD, intelligence, concentration, judgment

Use all of the Process Centers to the forehead:

Separately or together if there are enough hands!

How long to do NFP

• An NFP session

Usually a 20 minute session is

adequate for one session. More

time is good. Less time may not

be enough.

dcr

Connecticut School of Integrative Manual Therapy

Solution for Health

Where to perform NFP

on your Child • IF the child is sleeping, that is a great

time to perform NFP

• IF the child is awake:

– Anywhere: lying down, sitting up,

watching TV, reading to your child

–Just do it!

dcr

Connecticut School of Integrative Manual Therapy

How many people do you need

to perform NFP? • You need your child!

• You need at least one other person!

• The person uses both hands:

– On the Process Center

– Over the site:

• Forehead, top of head, side/s of head, back of head, bridge of nose

dcr

Connecticut School of Integrative Manual Therapy

Solution for Health

You Can Use More People &

Get More Done! • You need your child

• You need at least one other person

• IF you have more than one person, you can

get more Process Centers covered!

• The Best: enough persons to cover the „site‟

(forehead, top of head, side/s of head, back

of head, bridge of nose)

– And all of the Process Centers

simultaneously

dcr

Connecticut School of Integrative Manual Therapy

Solution for Health

When Is It O.K. To Do More?

• There are no precautions

or contraindications to

NFP!

• Do as much as you wish!

dcr

Connecticut School of Integrative Manual Therapy

Solution for Health

How Much Time? • With a child who has problems from birth,

or from an accident:

– Total: at least 5 hours of NFP from the

„site‟ (forehead, top of head, side/s of

head, back of head, bridge of nose)

• To each of the Process Centers

dcr

Connecticut School of Integrative Manual Therapy

Solution for Health

Can You Do Too Much? • You cannot over treat with NFP

• Try to get as much of the basic 5

hours performed ONCE.

• Try to get this performed as

quickly as possible:

– In one month

– Use weekends

– Use friends and family

– Use other children

– Just get it done!

dcr

Connecticut School of Integrative Manual Therapy

Solution for Health

What should you expect? • Expect changes

• After the 5 hours of:

– ALL SITES (Process Centers) TO ALL

PROCESS CENTERS

– Expect to be surprised:

• Decreased agitation; improved

awareness; improved cognition;

decreased rage responses………..

Learn more about NFP • Use the book:

– Body Wisdom

• By Sharon Giammatteo, PhD

and your child.
