Case study – Ethics applied to the workplace
Good, ethical behaviour in terms of research is no different to ordinary good, ethical behaviour. We all have a set of rules we must follow when we study at an institution or work for a company. Sometimes these rules are at odds with the moral ethics involved in being a good human being. But issues such as protecting the young and sick, saving lives, not hurting people, looking after the best interests of others, being fair – these are all highly desirable human qualities that are not rules as such, more moral codes that people try to live by. The following scenarios illustrate ethical problems in a variety of contexts.
a. Dr Smith teaches a writing course at a community college. One overseas student, Iriat L., struggles with English and usually submits assignments late. Iriat hands in a particular essay that is quite good and ordinarily would receive a Credit, but it has been submitted one day late – the student is penalised one mark and the essay receives a Pass. Iriat ultimately receives a Pass grade for the unit. The following term, another young woman, Sara B., asks to speak with Dr Smith. She tells him that her friend Iriat had borrowed a research paper she had written for another class – ‘to see an example of a real essay in English’ – and had then just retyped the paper, changing the wording here and there, and handed it in to Dr Smith as her own. Sara then produces her own paper as proof.
b. Michelle H. is the environmental compliance manager for a small plastics manufacturing company. She is currently faced with the decision of whether or not to spend money on new technology that will reduce the level of a particular chemical in the waste that flows from her factory into a nearby lake. The factory’s emission levels are within legal limits. However, if emissions stay at these levels, the fish in the lakes and rivers in the area might soon have to be declared unsafe for human consumption.

Security threats such as tunnelling attack, flooding attack, spoofing and wormhole attack. One such attack is the Sinkhole. This project focuses on building a protocol based solution for this attack.
10. Wireless Street Lighting Control and Monitoring System
Modern world is moving towards implementing traditional systems in Eco-friendly ways. Main principle is to create a system that can control and monitor the status of highway street lights within the given area and deliver the information to the user efficiently and effectively.
11. Wi-Fi Smart Robot
Robotics is one of the most trending topics at present which involves latest technologies. Ever since the invention of the robot there have been many introductions which lead to improvement of robotics. Video is used to operate the robot and it can be operated using a PC as well as the live video feedback can be viewed through a smart phone. Robot can reach unreachable places for humans.
12. Performance Evaluation of Localization Algorithms for Wireless Sensor Networks.
13. MIT Indoor Environment Monitoring System.
Implement an Indoor Environment Monitoring System for Melbourne Institute of Technology.

The students will get a chance to study a range of Wireless Communication protocols and provide a brief literature review of these protocols.
15. Implementation of WiFi routers as a rescue network
Home Wi-Fi routers to form a backup mesh network to be used by emergency personnel in the case of a disaster or other incident that wipes out standard cell and phone systems. Initially, student should discuss the issues while implementing WiFi Routers as a rescue network.
16. Security issues in 5G network
Description: Investigating the data security issues in the pervasive 5G network will provide insight into the burgeoning domain. In connection with cloud network and 5G network, reviewing the prominent approaches to safeguard the data will be of much interest in the investigation.
17. Smartphone app for automated roll checking
Educators sometimes waste class time by checking a class roll manually. In this project you will develop a software app for smartphones that will allow educators to check the class roll automatically. The student smart phone should be within the room. We assumed that teacher and students have smart phones.
