BUSINESS MANAGEMENT DISCUSSION POST
BMGT 496 Wk 1 K. LIN initial post:
Ethics contrasts between what's right and wrong, good and evil, virtuous and non-virtuous. In terms relating to business, it's the study of how businesses and individuals define and construct values and moral beliefs when conducting business. When I think of the word ethics, I also think about morals. Though they relate to the conduct of right vs wrong, ethics is a system determined by outside social groups, while morals are personal principles shaped by experiences, environment, culture, and religion. When it comes to business ethics, there are a set of ethical principles we go by, but how we choose to react within those principles is reflected in our morals. Being that business ethics is normative, during business operations it sets a standard for those to follow, ethics is applied in making business decisions, building customer and partner relationships, enhancing company reputations, and enforces positive behaviors. The connection of a company's culture reflects off of descriptive ethics, which is the actual actions taking place behind normative ethics.
