BRAINSTORMING ASSIGNMENT FOR WEEK 5

MDQ STEP TWO: FRAMING THE DECISION

This week’s purpose is to discuss step two of the MDQ model, define the three components to PPO’s decision frame, and narrow down four objectives.

There are three components to a decision frame in the MDQ model: 

· PURPOSE - what the plantation production manager hopes to accomplish by making the decision;

· SCOPE - what to include and exclude in the decision; and 

· PERSPECTIVE - the plantation production manager's point of view about the decision, the ways the manager want to approach, or others may approach making the decision. Framing is like the zoom feature of the camera. What we include in the picture is the scope of the decision it, the angle for the best lighting and view is the perspective and what kind of picture we want, an action or landscape shot, is the purpose.

Directions: 

1. By TUESDAY, complete the following: 

· All conclusions, justifications, reasonings, and explanations must be supported with course material in the form of APA in-text citations (page/paragraph numbers required) and a reference list.                                                                                                                                   

· Use the following Decision Statement (Step One): In responding to CAPO’s attacks, how will PPO keep their customers and continue to make money?

· Explain what “Framing the Decision” means in terms of the three components. You do this by addressing, discussing and supporting each of the terms - purpose, scope, and perspective (MDQ model). Discuss the biases and traps that must be avoided in Framing the Decision.

· Explain the meaning and purpose in using objectives in the MDQ model. Discuss the specific biases and traps that must be avoided.

· Discuss, support, argue, and examine the possibilities of PPO using these six objectives in the MDQ model. Through this process, the entire class must eliminate the two weakest objectives.  The remaining four objectives will be used to generate creative alternatives in next week’s brainstorming discussions.

In one last post attach a final response for Step Two: Framing the Decision. Incorporate #1 and #2 in your final response. This will be considered the brainstorming discussion assignment portion (7.5) of the ten point grade for the week. It must be an attachment and not an actual post.
