317 Week 5 Discussion
Week 5: Application of Step Two of the MDQ Model
Introduction: Framing the Decision
Skill #6: Identify the objectives, relevant stakeholders, approach and scope of the decision
As stated last week, there are three components to framing a decision:
1) PURPOSE- what does the decision maker and other stakeholders wish to accomplish by making the decision? What objectives do they hope to meet?
2) SCOPE- what to include and exclude in the decision?
3) PERSPECTIVE - your point of view about the decision, How does the decision maker and other stakeholders to the decision want to approach making the decision?
Framing is like the zoom feature of the camera. What we include in the picture is the scope of the decision, the angle for the best lighting and view is the perspective and what kind of picture we want, an action or landscape shot, is the purpose. This week we examine this element of the process to clarify who is or should be involved in the decision, what needs to be accomplished by making the decision and how important, complex, or timely the decision must be made.
