According to Dahnert (2017), radiology is a discipline in the medical field that depended on medical images for diagnosing and treating diseases on beings’ bodies. Radiology comprises of two major areas. The first area in the diagnostic radiology helps the health physicians view the inside structure of the human and animal bodies. The second is interventional radiology. This provides a guiding procedure to the doctors through the use of imaging such as ultrasound and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In the modern era, radiology has become a vital part of advancing technology. In the medical field, radiology is used in x-rays, MRIs, ultrasounds, and PET imaging.

There are quite a number of reasons why radiology technology is essential to the medical field. The first advantage of radiology helps the doctors by giving the root cause of the disease. It becomes easy for the doctors to spot the problem or the affected area through the diagnostic images as they provide them with detailed info about the disease and structural changes within the body. Radiology is also important as it eliminates the need for surgery as the physicians can view the inside of the body organs via the imaging. Additionally, radiology helps in the reduction of hospital and surgery expenses. Radiology helps in the reduction of medical errors. The MRI helps in the identification of the location and size of tumors and their treatment in the body. Lastly, radiology is essential in the provision of improving care for patients, through the provision of medical reports to the doctors and patients that enlightened on the best prescription and individual care to be administered, respectively (Gunderman (2005).

In my paper, I will be focusing on the risks associated with radiology. Despite the numerous advantages, radiology has dire effects on the patient’s health. Some of the side effects of radiology include; skin problems, fatigue, hair loss, lymphedema, change in menstruation for women, erectile dysfunction, and low sperm count in men (McBeth & Oakes, 1996). In addition, I will explore ways to reduce the effects of the side effects of radiology.
