Donabedian Framework
Donabedian model entails a conceptual model providing a framework for examining the different health services and evaluating the quality of healthcare services (LoPorto, 2020). It has a triad of concepts that defines the process of using it. It encompasses the structure, process, and outcome to evaluate the quality of health care. Together with the other seven pillars of quality, this triad enhances the improved quality of health care. In addition to its role in examining healthcare quality, this model helps in the structure and process of treating certain chronic diseases to help increase the quality of management of chronic diseases (LoPorto, 2020).
The structure in the Donabedian Model entails the physical and organizational characteristics of where healthcare services are provided. This explores the stable elements of the system, such as consent paperwork, the consent healthcare environment, and training of the healthcare professionals to ensure that they are up-to-date with evidence-based practice and are applying the same in clinical settings (Isasih, 2020). In my DNP project, I will ensure that I have the consent paper to help the patient agree to participate in the project after reading and agreeing to the consent paper.
According to the Donabedian Model, the process focuses on the care delivered to the patients, such as services, diagnostics, and treatment options. Here, it explores what is done to the patient (Isasih, 2020). In my DNP project, I will explain to the patient what will be done to them before proceeding as it will help increase their understanding of the process. Helping the patients understand the process will be essential in improving the quality of care given and patient outcomes.
The outcomes-based Donabedian Model entails the effects of healthcare on the status of the patients and the population. The outcome explains what happens to the health of the patients (Isasih, 2020). This includes facilitating the informed consent process, supporting patients to make informed decisions in participating in the project or not. In my DNP project, I will ensure that I help the patients understand the need for the project and get their informed consent to participate in the project.
