Qualitative literature does not concern numerical representativity, and it focuses on understanding a given problem in depth. Instead, qualitative research aims to produce illustrative and in-depth information to understand the different dimensions of the issue under analysis (Queirós et al., 2017). Thus, qualitative literature is concerned with reality aspects that cannot be quantified, emphasizing the explanation and understanding of the social dynamics relations.

While quantitative literature concerns data that can be quantified, in quantitative research, the results are regarded as a comprehensive view of an entire population because the samples are primarily large and representative of the population. Quantitative research follows structured procedures and adopts formal instruments for data gathering (Queirós et al., 2017). The data is gathered systematically and objectively. Statistical procedures such as SPSS software are usually used for the analysis of numerical data.

A seminal study is influential since it provides new or distinctive insights, methodologies, and results. Seminal works are landmark or pivotal studies and provide ideas of great significance within a particular discipline. In addition, these studies can provide the basis for future research. An example of a seminal study in the article "The Nexus Between Nurse Burnout, Missed Care and Patient Outcomes" by Singh (2019) focuses on nurse burnout and how it is linked to adverse patient outcomes. The study advances knowledge of a complex phenomenon of burnout by assessing its effects on specific preventable adverse events and showing that missed care is why nurse burnout undermines patients' safety and quality of care.
