Biology 108 Biodiversity Final Part I – Reflective Es.say An important part of any learning experience is the opportunity to think about how the knowledge gained has affected you personally - How it has changed how you see and understand the world.  That’s the objective of this part of the exam. 

1. You will be doing a brief reflective es.say on how your experience in this class has affected your intellectual growth. This es.say will be worth 30% of the final exam grade.

2. A reflective e.ssay should express how your understanding and feelings about a subject have changed over the course of an experience. In this case, the experience is taking this course. This is NOT a course evaluation. This is about YOU and how you have changed.

3. Your es.say should be related to real situations in your life. First, I would like you to think about how this course has changed how you think about biodiversity. Perhaps you “see” and think about the biodiversity around you in a different way. Second, I would like you to write about how this course has changed you professionally. In particular, you might write about what skills you have gained or improved that will be useful to you outside of this course. This includes both hard (writing, etc.) and soft (time management, etc.) skills. You can also write about how you have grown as a scientist (if that is your career path) or how your understanding of science has changed.  Some of you came into this course worried about your abilities to understand science.  Has this course changed your view of your abilities to understand science?

Formatting and Due Date for Exam Part I

Your write-up needs to be single-spaced typed in a 12 point font, and turned on 07/01.  Please, see previous emails and documents for late policy regarding the exam and the final paper. The essay should be around 1 to 1.5 pages long.

 

Be very careful to write it in your own words.  You must do your own work. Any evidence of plagiarism could result in a zero for the exam.
