Journal Club On Your Own! DUE: March 15th, 2019 No Late Submissions

1) Pick a piece of primary literature from the options available on the CANVAS site for JC OYO.

a. If you want to pick a different piece of primary literature, you need to get it approved by me by March 4th (MONDAY).

2) Print out, read, and annotate the article as we have done for JC this quarter. 3) Address the following in a TYPED report (put your name, BIOL211, and the date at the start):

a. Summarize the question the authors are asking or the problem they are investigating. b. Summarize concisely the main finding/conclusion of the paper, or one of the main

findings of the paper. c. What was the main technique used or one of the major techniques used in this paper

and describe it briefly? d. Outline the figures of the paper as best you can:

i. SUMMARIZE (a few sentences to a paragraph) each figure (as we did during JC); you can put more detail into those that you understand better, but some summary statement is necessary for each figure

ii. Is there a logical progression to the figures? iii. Can you comment on the “story” formed by the outline of the figures? iv. How does each figure the author’s argument/conclusions? v. Is there a “story” at all?

e. Other general comments on this paper? What did you think of this paper? Good science? Poor science? Did you like it? Hate it?

4) ATTACH your annotated copy of your article to your typed report and turn it in by the due date!
