Topic: Implementing Enterprise Risk Management in the healthcare industry

Thesis statement: Healthcare industry is exposed to a variety of risks which can easily lead to loss of lives. Implementing the Enterprise Risk Management would help much in managing these risks providing safety and saving lives.

The article is about how European healthcare insurers can create value for their customers using enterprise risk management framework. Europeans plan to do this by considering the relationship between healthcare insurance system and the public healthcare system, nature of markets and the various risk sharing models. The health insurers are given the responsibility of considering the various risks and coming up with various frameworks for example COSO to manage these risks.

The main goal of this article is to create a safe healthcare system by implementing enterprise risk management. It involves clinicians giving adverse events in which they were involved which provides medical and policy communities and whether they disclosed these events to the patients or not. The enterprise risk management has it that it is ethical to disclose such events to the patients. Some of the cases however cannot be disclosed as it would cause more harm. All these are aimed at managing risks.

Disclosing such errors is a major step towards risk management as everyone will be put to book making them more responsible as they will be held accountable in case of any unexpected event.

This article focuses risks associated with surgeries can be managed. Many surgical patients are exposed to so many risks such as over bleeding which may lead to even death. This article therefore looks into how Enterprise risk management can be applied in surgery and operations to prevent and manage any risks that may thereby occur. One of the risk management practices would be to have enough blood that would be transfused in case a patient loses too much blood.

This article focuses on how Enterprise risk management would be used in improving patient safety. Patients at whatever level are prone to many risks which may be adverse to even cause death. Implementation of ERP would help manage most of these risks before and after they occur which would provide patients with more safety.

The article regards having electronic medical records as a way of managing risks. There are various ways in which ERM can be implemented and keeping medical records electronic is one of them.
